I got a new (remanny) PS pump and steering rack. Both parts look just about the same and im sure they will do the job, but im confused on one thing.

They both came covered in black paint, that keeps flaking off rather badly. Odd part is, the 'black' paint is blue on the part side.

so i ask:

Whats the deal with the paint on re-manufactured parts?

Brake calipers have cheap silver metallic spray paint on it and it was oversprayed to pistons and everything. I guess they simply try to hide scratches and stuff. Nothing special I guess.

This is my guess. It may be chipping off so badly because it wasnt properly prepped for painting just a quick spray. Interesting the paint is blue on the other side tho...Lol maybe they did a coat of blue and were like nah this looks dumb lets do black and then did subsequent coats in black, then it chipped off as 1 layer. Maybe the world will never know.

Strip the paint and redo it if you care. I usually only get re-manufactured parts with good warranties. Seems like the best policy for things like that, but if it was remanufactured properly then it shouldn't matter how the exterior looks.
