Hello,
2006 M45 new Infiniti owner here. I recently had a sensor failure which triggered an engine shutoff and flooded the cats. The sensor was covered under warranty but the cat lights that came on shortly after are not. There seem to be a few options for ordering the replacement parts(14002CG200 and 14002CG210) - through the dealer, Infinitipartsusa.com, orderinfinitiparts.com, infinitipartszone.com, parts.infinitiusa.com(official), or parts.com. Infinitipartsusa.com specifically states that theirs is a remanufactured part, certified by Infiniti, while the other sites charge about $50-200 less but say something like "This Genuine Factory Manifold", " The Original Equipment Manufacturer or OEM part", but I haven't seen the word "new" anywhere. Are the other part manufacturers also likely to be selling remanufactured manifold/cats but not explicitly stating it? I'd like to keep the car as long as possible, and it currently has 112k miles on it.
Is there a significant long term lifespan advantage to purchasing a new manifold cat vs a remanufactured one? I know that they get very hot so am concerned about long term cracking with a remanufactured part, however, if the catalyst section, which is the same piece attached to the manifold for the V8 VK45 engines, has something like 80-100k mile life expectancy and the manifold has 2-300k, then it wouldn't matter since you'd be replacing it for cat failure before manifold failure anyway. I have asked these questions to the support at the parts sites, but none have responded for a few days.
Any input is greatly appreciated, and thank you very much for creating this community which was a great help choosing the two cars for my family.
