The auction seller indicated that the picture posted is the part I'm going to get, however I've become a little skeptical.
I've inquired about the pros/cons of remanf AC compressors, and here's a statement from a guy who works with automotive AC systems:"If you choose a good OE used unit off a pressurized system(like awrecked car) chances are that the unit will be in great shape. Therebuilders try, but I have had many shaft seal failures on Japaneseunits. I think it is due to the tight tolerances of the Japanese. Thecore quality for the rebuilder is the issue. Some are good, and someare junk. The rebuilds are not cheap also. I do AC work only onautomotive, and I choose new first always, then I prefer good used forJapanese. I don't dare use domestic rebuilds, they are total junk andnew are cheap. My warranty rates dropped dramatically when I stoppedwith the rebuilts."
I'm sure there's credibility to the statement above, but I'd still debating between the two options. Has anyone had similar experiences? Would you still buy an older OE unit as opposed to a rebuilt that has a 1-year warranty? Once a rebuilt unit is installed and works fine, it should be OK the rest of the way right? With an older OE unit, one can't be sure when that thing will fail since there's no safety cushion like a remanf unit's warranty. What would you all STRONGLY recommend, since both options have certain risks associated with it?
