I was reading aobut the custom short ram intake on the installs page and I was wondering where else the battery could be moved besides where the airbox used to be. I have a cone filter so I was planning on doing this mod to get a little bit of extra power out of it without spending $300 on a cold air intake. But the problem is theres a fusebox where the airbox used to be so the battery wont fit over there. I've seen the battery moved to the trunk but I dont know how complicated this would be.

i moved my battery to the rear, and put the intake filter where the battery used to be.

heres how it looks with the hatch open

cables going into the nissan-cut hole

clearance to STB (from above)

from the front, with the rear seat folded down

i drilled the holes through the sheet metal, and they came out in very good places. to test a location, take a punch and put a tiny hole, have some light above and look from underneath. be sure to avoid the gas tank.

any questions?

Can you get a better pic of the Distribution block. Where would i get one at?? Someone was saying to use a bolt to connect the stock post(old positive clamp) to the battery cable coming from the trunk. Also, how long of a negative cable are you all running?? The last car i had a battery in the trunk, it wasn't grounded good enough and i had to run a 10+ft neg cable to the block. Any difference in handling with the battery in trunk?? Someone should write a desent writeup(with pics) on putting the battery in trunk and making it a sticky!!

It's not all that hard and you don't have to run some ghetto distribution block either. It's as simple as running a 4 gauge (or larger of you must....it's not a v8 so it's unneccessary to do so) wire....from the battery (which is now in the back of course) to the starter and then run another section from the starter to the fusable link on the fuse box......done.

Buy a Marine battery box from the likes of Wal-MArt, ect and it works fine. In my S14, I out it on the passengers side in the trunk...reason being is there are already three threaded holes for use in bolting down said battery box....makes life enjoyable....

Oh and slideshowbob.....in regards to your sig reffering toa dear freind of mine......your a ****sucker...thanks.

its not bare copper wire... that would be retarded. its the "battery cable" that auto parts stores sell, just flexable 2ga wire.

The distribution block is nice b/c it gives me a convenient place to get power for things like the cooling fans and using a timing light. I also set up a pair of circuit breakers that are good for 100A continuous load. Both of these items can be purchased from most car stereo shops or online. I just happened to already have the two cb's and set them up in parallel to carry more current.

Where online would i get them(block)?Ebay has 100+ listing for it. A car stereo shop might charge an arm/leg.

See that's the problem with doing it. If you relocate your battery to somewhere other then the engine bay, you have to have a kill switch outside the car in the back. If you have a coupe then you can leave the battery exposed but it must be secure. If you have a hatch you have to completely cover the battery with some sort of box. They might not look at this stuff so close if your car isn't fast. The faster the car gets the more attention it'll get from the NHRA tech guys. To kill it you'd have to run a seperate wire from your alternator back to your battery. I think I'll just use a smaller battery then run the intercooler pipe outside of the battery. Just one less thing I'll have to worry about.
