I'm sorry if this is a repost, but does anyone have a list of reliable japanese exporters? Also, any prefferences on registered importers, or ports? it would be alot easier to get all of this stuff in one place, rather than wonder the web for another 5 hours looking for more info. I already have all of the information i need for the mainland side of things, i just don't know how to go about getting a car here.

If anyone needs the RI list, legal imoprtation list or links to needed forms, let me know. i have most of that already.

thanks- Tom.

Are you wanting to import a Skyline? You do know that it's next to impossible to get one fully federally legal, right?

1996-1998 R33 is on the list of eligible cars for import, but you've got to figure out how to get the RB26DETT to be OBD II compliant for the boys down at the EPA.

The cost of getting all the work done and trying to retrofit the engine for OBD II is usually well beyond the value of said car.

I am trained in OBDII. do they need the OBDII for emission checks, or is it just for the purpose of being OBDII compliant? They have to terminate all 1996 toyota's then, because the OBDII on them didn't comply until the got the technology for GM... of course it is the government, so they'll do what they want i guess... It's like saying that the skyline isn't safe to drive from Japan, and it has to be modified, but i would think it is alot safer than a smart car... lol.

To the government, you need to crash several R34 to ensure passenger safety to make them legally compliant. This already has been discussed over and over.

Toyota has a better leverage and american marketed cars which helps some regulations to be buttered. The Shyline was never supported by Nissan on american soil.

i know about the crash testing. and the R33 is legal, but the OBD does not comply with US standards for the year. but if thats all they have going against the OBD part, then they don't have much of a case, being that several manufacturers didn't comply in 96. try finding the OBDII connector in an early 96 honda accord. Regulation says it must be under the left hand side of the dash, but it is burried in the center of the dash... Toyota didn't fully comply either, being that the OBDII connector gave you no information other than "Find Connector B on right hand side of engine compartment"... The NHTSA has already stated that the R33 can be brought into complience on thier end, so it is just a battle of OBD complience for the year.

Toyota for one... but they got out of it somehow for the first 6 months. are there any similar ECM's that are in cars in the states? or would i have to completely start from scratch?
