New member to forum as I just bought a 2007 M45 Sport YESTERDAY! Happy New Year to me! I was looking at Lexus GS models and just missed out on GS 460. Drove an AWD 2008 GS 350 and, well, eeeh. It felt like I was accountant (kinda am!) in my Mom's Lincoln after coming out of 2 prior Mustnag GTs. Swore I'd never own anything else but GT until I was creamed by truck and dump truck within 6 mos and totaled both along with cervical surgery. Wife said might want to consider something nit as haunted.

Was set on Lexus GS until I test drove a pristine 2007 M 45 Sport. Literally researched reviews, etc., while sitting at dealer and bought it 30 minutes later after test drive. Very impressive performance, and I'm not one to favor a small carbon footprint over an awesome V8. Totally forgot about premium unleaded spec, but life goes on.

My prelim research showed avg of 5 of 5 stars by good multiple owners, with glowing "I'll never buy another car" vibe. Later I dug up number of posts regarding oil consumption, blown engines, etc., even after a bunch of 5 of 5 ratings in reliability on this model.

Now the loaded, polarizing question: Is it wide-reaching issue or isolated (but VERY real to those affect of course - no disrespect there). I intentionally went with Infiniti because if reliabilty as well as performance reviews. Feel free to weigh in, good or bad. Happy to be part of forum, sorry for lengthy post (not a Twitter, 144 character guy) and thanks.

i have run the m since 2006 model but always the v6 model [ i did have a few q45 ] so i can not comment on that engine directly.
Everything else works, my only out of warranty expense has been one seat heater button failure . I go back to 1990 with Infiniti.

It comes down to luck sometimes. Some of those engines consumed oil badly, and the ones that were caught earlier on were replaced.
But basically, they all consume oil (a little more aggressively than other V8s I've owned, although all of them do lose some oil). The issue then is to keep an eye on your oil levels.

Some people take their cars to get the oil changed at short intervals and therefore might never get to know how much oil they're losing.
My style is the old school way of checking the oil every week or before major trips; then changing thr oil at home. I collect the old oil and note how much I lost over a given mileage. Btw, the car has a maintenance reminder so I also set that to 1000 miles and just compare what the dipstick shows.

However you chose to do it, just don't neglect it.

Welcome to the forum, I think you'll enjoy both your car and this forum.

Thanks guys. Just took it for tires, alignment and synthetic oil change today. Could have gotten another 5K on tires, but I'm. Not one who takes kindly to hydroplane get to save $100. Toyo Proxes 4s are feeling real good BTW. alignment checked and was perfect, so very good shop didn't charge for heck of it.

This car looks like brand new. 69K miles and is impeccable, no dings on door, back seat looks as if never used, just a nice ride. Other than forking out almost $50 for first fill up, I'm giddy. Handles like on rails and I've never owned anything other than sports cars, and almost every kind (Corvette, BMW 7 series sport, Porsche, Mustang GT). Pretty meticulous, but I'll keep an eye on it. Quite frankly, I've never owned a car including mostly V8s that burned a drop of oil, so this concept, especially for well-engineered Japanese make is totally foreign (pun intended! LOL) to me. Not thrilled with all the electronics, mainly because it's kinda distracting to my ADD self, but the car is very fun to drive. And yes, I'll maintain it, but I'll also drive it like I stole it! I'm a V8 guy and I'm out to make the biggest carbon footprint I can!

I got my 06 M45 sport back in April. I've put 15k on it, and yes, I have to check the oil at least once a week. It's always had Mobil 1 (previous owner was a family member since new), and k&n filter. The oil usage varrys for me cause sometimes I baby it to work and back, but sometimes I meet a lot of douchebags at stoplights and I feel the need to embarrass them......anyways, just keep an eye on it frequently. I've replaced both cam position sensors on a side note. 1 at 148k, the other at 152k. They were both OEM and both went around the same time. Other than that, it's been routine maintenance and it's still an incredible car! Enjoy!
