Hello all...

I just read Redmanfx's guide (zerothread/195799) to removing the a/c cooling unit/evaporator and it was extremely helpful. The only issue I have is that he did not explain how to release the pressure from the a/c system.. I have had no success in finding out how to do so in this forum, others I belong to or with Google.

I am not a newb when it comes to my own maintenance, except for A/C issues. I don't want to screw up my system (or myself).

Thanks in advance...Brian.

Youll want to have the system evacuated. IMO, the best thing for you to do would be to take it to an AC shop, pay for the service, have them evacuate, tell them you'll be back. Theyll evacuate the system, you replace the parts, and then you come back, they'll vacuum the system and then recharge properly. That would be the cheapest route and most *ahem* environmentally friendly...

I suppose that is the best way to approach it. Will most shops evacuate it w/o bitching and moaning? I can easily do all the other stuff myself, although I did crack the evaporator case before I realized the entire evaporator has to come out.

Many thanks for a quick response!

Is this on your Altima or another car?

They should do it no problem, assuming you are R134a.

This is for my 98 Altima - it is a little different than the Q behind the glove box, but all in all, pretty close. I am guessing it is R134a...I have never been too up to date on a/c matters.

Thanks again...
