I am having a problem finding out what the relay I am about to describe does. I have searched the forum and I dont see where this one has come up and I tried searching on the web but got no hits. It is a light blue relay with four wires, one is blue w/ red stripe, second is green w/ yellow strip and then it has two wires run directly to the battery.

The previous owner just layed it beside the relay box in beside the battery and I am thinking of relocating it but I wanted to know what it does.

It has 41RGU stamped on it. I just had to replace the battery even though the car had a new battery because it was completely dead. There were no lights left on but when I pulled the old battery out I noticed that the blue w/ red stipe wire was under the battery and the wire was exposed and grounding out on the battery tray. I am thinking that it may have been a hot wire and killed the battery. I will try and find my multimeter to see what voltage I get but I am hoping someone knows what this relay does.

Thanks for any help you can give

From the sounds of it, this is a custom added relay for doing something else. I've seen relays added to run electric fans (which I'm guessing is probably the case on this car).

Nissan never pulls voltage directly from the battery for a relay. I have always seen the power get routed through a fuse.

Also, the only relay I could come across in the electrical section of the FSM with a blue/red and green/yellow wire was the rear defog relay. It was a 6 pin relay, though, not a 4.

Since this is a custom unit. You're best way to solve the riddle is to trace the wires and follow them where they go.
