Two weeks ago, I had an opportunity to go hang out at Saguaro Lake with a local NICO member and long-time Infiniti owner, russg. Russ has owned several Infinitis, most notably a couple Q45's and now an M45.

Here's a few pics I took during our run about the lake... enjoy!

p.s. We really do have the coolest members.

...and of course, a pic of his REAL machine, the new M45! :)

Takes a LOT more hp to move a boat than a car... But you're right, it hustles! :)

I'm trying to figure out how to get him to "loan" it to me for a Saturday... ;)

Aint that the truth...

It's always been my firm belief that God intended from the very beginning for the internal combustion engine to be designed with eight cylinders in a V configuration. If ever proof was needed, the venerable Chevy 350 small block would provide all that's ever required. Our beloved DOHC4.5 liter V8's provide further testimony to this indisputable gospel truth.

Be that as it may, the 5.7's in the boat are but simple throttle body injected versions, and modestly factory tuned to only 260 HP at the prop shaft each. It takes an enormous amount of energy to move a 12,000+ pound object through water. Best observed speed using GPS is 41.5 mph. The 5.7's are turning about 4600 rpm at that speed. Average fuel consumption at normal cruise (30 mph, 3500 rpm) is a very consistent 1.3 mpg.

I will never complain about gas mileage ever again...

Not to mention marine gas is VERY expensive... We charged $2/gallon at our marina last year..... $2.75/gallon for 50/1

I don't see any fishing rods though. And those of you thinking to relocate to warmer climate might have second thoughts after spending a July/August down here.

Looks like you guys hit the lake on a good day. Won't be long till that lake is so crowded they have to shut it down(.

nice engines in the boat. We have a 2k2 larson bowrider 180xi. It only has 225 hp with a 4.3 mercruiser alpha one sterndrive, but it's pulled up 7 skiiers. It'll top out around 65. I love the water and especially water skiing.

I just aquired a 1979 Glastron Sportsman - Gold glitter over yellow basecoat with gold vinyl... open bow, walk-thru windshield. It's definitely a "disco-pimp" boat.

Needs an engine, as Merc 90 is seized. NOW you guys know what I want for my birthday. :)

Great! Call Randy at Performance Marine. 623-931-9917. 6608 W. Northview Ave. in Glendale. Best Merc mechanic I know. Only works on Merc products. He's the "Kenny" for your motor, assuming it's repairable. He's the guy I'd want working on it if it were mine. Let me know how it goes.

Not repairable, unfortunately.

Someone tried, and disassembled the engine (then let it sit out in the rain for 5 years). :)

No rush, as I'm "baroque" for now. :(

me thinks your boat needs two DOHC Corvette ZR-1 motors, they're made by Mercury Outboard, only seems natural right?:D

nice M, wondered what they looked like, never got around to actually looking at some pics of them ::hides from the rocks::

Big difference when you are refueling nearly 600 gallons at a time !!!

When the F-HUT taxes were taken off of marine / farm diesel (the one with the red tints), this essentially negated the luxury tax and brought the revival of American yacht manufacturers, not to mention what it did for commercial tug shipping and farmers. Whoops, wait a minute here ! That is for another forum... WTF was I thinking !!!

My next boat will be a custom Carolina sportfisher where the fuel capacity will be 1200 to 1400 gallons, but then again, she will have over 2000 horsepower of American iron down below.

Nice boat AZHITMAN, glad your friend invited you along ! Might I ask what lake that was ?

Saguaro Lake. A small local lake just northeast of Phoenix.

I hope you got the boat for free. You will spend more on a new engine, that the whole thing is worth (unless you get one that has the serial numbers filed off).:pface

I smoked my bass boat engine, and a new(rebuilt) 40 HP Merc, was going to cost me $2,500, installed. The whole boat was valued at $1,700

I sold the carcass to a neighbor, for $500 It is still sitting in his back yard. Amazingly, he still ikes me.

I warned him, and disclosed everything, at the time of sale. I even gave him the number of the guy that had the engine.

BOAT = hole in the water, that you pour money in:eek:

Jeff... You must not be looking very hard....

At our marina we have all kinds of used engines... my dad bought a 40hp Force (a generic mercury but the same engine, sans a few minor things) for like 500 or something like that.....

Boat was free and is in great (well, as great as a weathered 1977 Glastron can be) shape.

I'd like to find a 90-110 hp outboard for it for a good price...

Force is the kind of motor I had. A 1987 model. It was a 50. It is actually an old Chrysler design, that Merc bought. I would stay away from them. They are prone to overheating, and WAY overrated on their power. A 50 Force is about a 35 Merc. They used to be rated at the crank, but now motors are rated at the foot.

My best friend bought a 8 HP Johnson, and paid nearly $1,000 bucks.

My next boat will have a Honda or Yamaha engine.

Check the plate on the hull. It should have a max HP rating for the boat. Don't go over that, unless you want to give it to the Marine Police.

Be careful of extra costs, like power tilt, cabels, and mounting costs. They can run close to $1,000

Glastron is a good hull. We had a mid 70's model, with a 150 Evinrude on it. That boat would pull up 2 skiiers on slolam. It was a hoss!

Hull plate says max 100hp. Guess I'll stay below that.

I had a 16' Starcraft w/ open bow and a 383 I/O in high school, made my own whaletail for it (in metalshop) to prevent cavitation under rapid throttle-dump. Open headers and no engine cover - Hot, loud and stinky!

force outboard motors are the biggest pieces of junk ever manufactured. They put out about half the hp they are rated at. Our ' 02 18' larson has a 4.3 Chevy with a mercruiser alpha one stern drive. It's been reliable as well as powerful for the year that we've had it. I'd never, ever in my entire life buy a force motor. My gpa rebuilds boat motors for a living, and the force motors outnumber the other models by alteast 2-3 times in his shop.
