My male friend asked me if he should discuss politics with his girlfriend. My Opinion:

If you want to get laid! politics is unhealthy for a relationship [not marriage]. You [the male] are just setting yourself up and in the end, after the smoke clears, you get screwed..errrr rather not. .

i guess it depends on the kind of relationship you want. are you looking for the kind where you can openly be yourself? or do you just date for entertainment? i am unable to not discuss politics with people if i am around them long enough so for me that would be a big issue.

It's possible...

But I believe a real relationship transcends all else and infuses itself with your entire person. In other words, a bf and gf or man and wife (or others) should be able to discuss and agree and disagree on anything without it hampering your emotional link to that person.

I guess it goes back to your beliefs and values of a relationship moreso than that of politics.

I dont think it has to be a big issue...my neighbor is a strong democrat, adamently opposed to most everything Bush stands for. His girlfriend (who's HOT btw) is a conservative who's a big fan of Bush. They just dont discuss politics much and try to be understanding of each other's views. Its working fine for them!

Something that is generally true but not accepted in feminized Amercia, is that women who aren't informed tend to be hotter than women who are.

Politically Incorrect? I'm proud to say, yes

Never been a problem with my friends or in relationships. There was one girl who would literally start screaming about the war, forcing me to walk away or hang up on her annoying ***.

My roommate and I have a REALLY liberal "friend" thats like that...we just take the opportunity to mock her beliefs and degrade her opinions Crazy enough, she wants to date me (the prospect is ****in terrifying).

You're a sad little man...

There is no reason politics should be taboo in a relationship. If I'm with someone that can't deal w/ who I am, they aren't worth my time. I don't have a problem w/ dating a girl w/ conflicting beliefs, just makes the debates all the more interesting. It can make for some hurt feelings, but both people should be able to get over that and respect eachothers beliefs.

I get in political discussions with a lot of people. If you can't talk politics with me then I don't think I'd be as interested. I can be fairly open to differing opinions; it sometimes helps you grow and expand your mind. However, these opinions have to be backed up by facts from reputable sources. I hate guys who just talk smack, state their opinion, and don't know why they think that way but insist they are right and know better than me. Bottom line: I like political discussions and it's ok to have differing views so long as you can back them up intelligently and don't resort to senseless bickering.

Politics is probably the only thing that my girlfriend and I DON'T argue about. Probably helps me get laid

Some people confuse debate with obnoxious screaming and yelling. Those are the people I tend to avoid.

If you're asking if political differences of opinion will affect your chances of getting laid, the answer is no UNLESS you act like an idiot and escalate it to a bigger issue than it is. Part of getting to know someone is understanding their views on all sorts of topics. Politics is just one, and shockingly there are many happy couples that disagree with politics. I would think hot button issues religion, spending money, abortion, lifting the toilet seat, etc could strain a relationship every bit as much, if not more than politics.

seriously, i've noticed that some of the conservatives i've spoken to are the most bigoted, rudest, close-minded people i've ever met in my life.

Although i know only one person ( a friend) who is a conservative who respects my views and we don't get into political discussions anyway because we already know where the other one stands already--no forcing of views there.

Hey, if she could back up any of her positions well and with some authority on the subject, we could have respect for her...I have two VERY good friends who are liberal and we have no issues whatsoever. They are both very intelligent, can clearly and concisely argue their points, and dont belittle my opinions. I realize that their feelings stem from a genuine desire to see the American people living better lives, and I can respect that even if I dont agree with their way of accomplishing it. We even watched the debates together.

Well, you didn't mention that she was an idiot in your previous post Nathan. That changes everything.
