I wanna see what you regular cab people did to install a good audio system in your trucks!

I have 3-250W Phoenix Gold Subs with an 800W PG sub that I had in my 05 Frontier years ago. When I traded it in I kept all the audio equipment hoping to install it into another truck. Unfortunately since I have a regular cab, I can't exactly fit 3 10" subs with a bench seat!

I want more bass, as I only have a set of aftermarket 4" speakers in the stock locations...

yeah, was looking at my 4" fronts and trying to figure out how to get a 6x9 in the same location. The back of the magnet fits in the 4"spot but I need to make an adapter to mount it. But a 6.5 with a small build up would work too.

Here is my solution, I cut out an MDF donut and hacked at the interior panel a tiny amount with an angle grinder to put in a pair of 6.5" speakers.

In my 240sx coupe Im waiting for these 6.5" subs to be released by Hybrid Audio. Something like that would fit some where. YOu could get an 8" or 10" and just put it in a closed box and put it anywhere.

I had a thought the other day of using the over head speakers in a jeep and rig them up behind my head.

You could build something like this, Small 5" or 6.5" in a T-line or TH type Enclosure

No space, man, unless I wanna replace my passenger seat with a subwoofer.

I've been looking into low-profile subwoofers for my 240Z though cause I wanna put some decent audio when it gets back on the road but I hate the idea of eating up my "trunk" space or ditching my spare tire. Spare tires and cargo room are more important than bass. I've seen some that are around 10-12" in diameter and around 3" deep, something like that could probably fit behind the seat in a standard cab, I'm planning on slotting a couple behind the seats in the Z, there oughtta be space.

Is there any room behind the seat in a STD cab?

Not in mine. The top of the seat touches the back wall just below the window, and there is enough room to cram a little bit of stuff down near the bottom, bungies/antifreeze/oil/jumper-cables/otherstuff in my truck, maybe 5" deep? Then again, my seat broke at one point and I jerry rigged it with some scrap steel to make it fairly comfortable again. It no longer latches or adjusts in any way shape or form. One of these days I'm gonna replace that crappy bench for some buckets with headrests.

So maybe a cleverly designed box could fit behind the passenger seat.

It'd have to be reeeal clever. If my bottle of antifreeze isn't lined up just perfect, it stabs my passenger in the kidneys
What's the smallest subwoofer anybody makes for car audio that sounds decent, anyways? I only ever hear about huge ones, then again, nobody I know tends to go much above stock audio anyways. Workable space I would figure would be around if you made a right triangle about 12" tall and 5" deep, maybe if you stuck a speaker on the hypotenuse you could make something workable.... then again it'd be pointing right into the back of the seat so it'd have to be a subwoofer because that's the only audio you can listen to with your bum.

6.5 inch sub. You don't really want to go smaller although you can get 5.25" and stuff.

The box could be like this

Hopefully it can be made tight enough to fit back and under the seat. that sub is maybe 3 or so inches deep and could be touching the bottom just barely with the magnet.

This may be a dumb question, but I have a regular cab 84 720 and was wondering where the stock spearkers are located at. I see the ones just in front of the doors, are there any others?

those are the only speakers in a 720. In fact, my base model 1981 truck had only a single speaker, on the passenger side. The driver side interior panel had the lovely little perforations to pretend it had a speaker, and a location to mount one, but lo and behold no speaker to be found. Glorious AM-radio mono single speaker stock sound system.

Only two in front. Many people cut a hole for a 6x9 in the area right behind the door.

I am running a pair of Infinty 4" in the stock location, a 8" JBL with a small wedge box (got them from car toys). Not the top of the line JBL, a Jenson 200w amp under the seat, and a Kenwood head unit. Sounds awsome, post a video later. The sub is usually behind the passenger seat, which is moved a little bit forward.

^Bump for pics.
I'm also looking to fit a subwoofer without hacking up my single cab.

my current set up is two six inchers in the stock location with 6X9s in boxes behind the driver and passenger seat. my next plan is to take the bench out, swap in buckets and get an amp to power a 10 inch sub in between the two seats. that would get you some bass but there isn't a whole lot you can do with a standard cab. that's all that will fit i think.

They sell flat boxes to specs for behind the bench seat for 10" 12" and 15" subs. you feel the box for the 15's through the seat so I wouldn't go for that as they are too tall. If you need I'll try to get the dimensions.

Probably not the best set up but i bought a box with 2 speakers and 2 tweeters from walmart for 20 bucks...it fits behind the stock bench in a 2 door 720 truck. Ill have to take some pictures when i have everything wired up and see how it is.

Seems like a cheap and easy way to get sound.

I am about to start messing around with my 720 more soon here, so audio will be on the list.

I have 4 6.5"s running off the deck and a shallow kicker 12 between the seat powered by an alpine 400 mono that is mounted behind the pass seat. Both my seats go all the way back and it sounds great.

I did the same thing with some sony 5.5's only didn't need but three inches of depth. So only needed like a 1/4" more depth for a comfortable fit in the stock location. I used styrofoam poster board for the offset. No jigsaw required just a nice sharp box cutter. didn't need to do any angle grinding either for the 5.5" just drill the new mount holes.

Radio's been changed, now I need to change the speakers to some 6X9s. When I purchase the box for behind the seat will post pics of it.
