regular vs synthetic oil

I just bought a 2005 murano. Upon opening the hood there was a piece of duct tape on the trans cover which says "synthetic oil only".

I've been told I can change to regular oil.

Any suggestions?

That's probably referring to the CVT fluid. For that you should definitely stick with the stuff Nissan used.

As for engine oil, synth or dino is fine. Just use a good filter.
