I have just purchased a brand new car and I want this one to last as long as possible. So therefore, I am thinking about running Mobil 1 Synth with Fram Tripleguard(with teflon) filters to decrease wear as much as possible. First off, will there be any negative side effects when I go from regular oil to Synth?(i.e, sludge build up, separation of the two oils causing bad lubrication?) Plus, should i change to Synth my first 3,000 mile oil change? will it harm my car or not, that early on in the engines life? I'm hoping for some good solid facts and info, cuz I don't want to f!ck up my brand new car. (btw, it's a new Scubaru Impreza 2.5RS Sport. I still have my '91 s-13 project car for fun.)

Thanks for any info guys.

Usually around 5k on regular oil to make sure you get a nice break in period. After that, go full synthetic for the rest of the cars life, if you do this, your car will give you well over 300k miles. I'd use a Mobil 1 filter though, fram and penzoil is the same junk. If you can get your hands on Amsoil and Amsoil filters, I'd recommend that. For your RS, I'd use 5w-30 year round. Don't fear going to synthetic too soon, some high performance cars such as vipers and corvettes comes from the factory with Mobil 1 Full Synthetic.

Synthetic is way better. it does have one sideaffect though. it tends to leak more at the seals. but it will make your engine last a lot longer.

It coats the rotor walls with a film that can interfere with combustion. Oh, right... not a rotary. Well, carry on then.

I read this EXCELLENT review on running synthetic oil in a brand new car.... it opened my eyes up greatly. Amsoil is the best oil to use by far, with wear in first 10,000 miles inbetween changes being 3 times less than Mobil 1. Problem was that the oil gained 'weight' as it went, going from a 10w30 to a 10w40 after the 10,000 mile mark. I'll probably be changing my synth oil every 5,000 miles, so I shouldn't have a problem.

hachibroku, The technical BS behind it is that a synthetic molecule is much smaller than a standard oil molecule, and that it gets through seals easier that way. Or so I have been told by a few mechanics.

Got my new car. She runs awesome! only problem is that i can't go above 4000 RPM's before 4,000 miles. also, I got the car with 2 missing rear lugnuts , but I'll get that fixed 2morrow morning.

do not use fram filter. those filter sucks. i rather use one of those supertech filter from walmart before i even touch a fram. don't let the huge name brand fool you. best filter you can get will be oem, because it's design for the engine and of course no manfacturer want there engine to give out fast so it's design to filter out the best it can.

Here's a Great source for synthetic oil information. I found this VERY useful in my search, a little confusing at times, but nonetheless helpful.

Here it is: http://neptune.spacebears.com/....html

Anyone thinking about synthetic oil should read this.
