Oh, we more than make up for what we don't pay in auto registration with what we pay in sales tax. We have one of the highest, if not THE highest, sales tax rates in the entire country.cireecnop1 wrote:I realize that our registration is used for Highways but we dont see any of that money down here. roads are still crap. Thanks guys for your input its interesting to see the different amounts by state.
We are in the same boat here in Texas "Taxus". Our sales tax rate isn't far behind, 8.25%. Only certain items are exempt from groceries like milk and water, everything else is taxed. We don't have an income tax either so we make up for it in property tax also. A the average home owner pays about 4,000 to 6,000 in tax a year. That's with a $100,000 -$120,000 house.Ever Victorious wrote:Oh, we more than make up for what we don't pay in auto registration with what we pay in sales tax. 8.9% in King, Pierce, and Snohomish counties. Only groceries and postage stamps are tax-free.
No income tax, but relatively high property taxes. Pick your poison.
Our taxes used to be 15% (GST & PST), after a few years now it is down to 13%. We pay both taxes on alot of things, except groceries (we only pay one tax). However, they want to harmonize both taxes next year so that we will pay it on both! Plus our property taxes are extremely high and we pay income tax!Ever Victorious wrote:

Annual PROPERTY tax is under $800! WOW! You would not believe how much more ours is. It's actually sickening!kc5f wrote:Thanks for making me feel better, Proxim! Our sales tax is 7% and we do have a state income tax, but I just paid the annual property tax bill on our house and even though it's above the range you noted, it was under $800!
