Hey, I have a 1993 GT-R32 in Canada. Had it in the US before on a temporary plate for the weekend or a few days. Can anyone share some info on how to get a title for a car in MI or FL? What does everyone think about registering the car in Canada and driving it in the US? How long can I do this or will Homeland Security or Customs come to my house and want the car if it stays in the US for too long?I read thru the forum and could not get an answer to these questions.

I'm new to NICO, but not new to cars. I have a 04 Rx-8 that I'm currently thinking of selling and that is why I want to bring the r32 more permanently. And also have a 99 miata that is being built to be my track car.If anyone could help me, it would be great.

Getting It registered in your state does not make it federally legal.

Read some of the stickies. Be super careful of how you register it or then will impound it.

I would keep it registered in Canada where it is legal and just drive it around in the US. The only thing is that you need to have an address up here.

I have read all of the sticky's and do know that it won't make it federally legal. But how do I get a title for the car? Do I have to get it inspected, if yes, where?

And my second question. Can I drive a R32 registered in Canada on US roads for an extended period of time?

im not sure how it works there but up here this is how you get it registered.

1) pass out of province (state) inspection (Dot headlights, fender turn lights, and some other small things)2) proof of ownership3) proof of insurance.

then you take all of that to the DMV and they will give you registration for the year.

And im not sure how it works down there but i think you can drive Canadian registered cars down there so long as you have a permanent residence in Canada. One of my best friends drove his Audi for two years down there and it was registered in Edmonton.

-----edit

You should just trade your GTR for my Z;) ... lol

I can get it registered in Canada without a problem. But IDK what the police here would say when they would pull me over because I'm a US Citizen/and have a permanent address here in MI and will be moving to FL in a few months for school (transfering to Univ of Florida).

Can anyone give me some info on the 2 questions? I'll be talking to SOS/DMV on Tuesday about driving a car from canada here for a LONG time. And registering it.
