Hi everyone

I heard it from my friend. He told me that I can use regular gas instead of premium and add some additive every 3 to 4 tank.

Is it correct?

Welcome to our forum G_ti, (even though I see you've been a member for some time).

You've asked a million dollar question and you're going to get answers from yes, all the time, to no, never. You may be treated to the theory of combustion and the thermodynamic properties of stuff most of us don't understand.

You'll enjoy it here, and you can expect a lot of answers to this, and any question.

Welcome back. I hope you enjoy it here, I do.

I'm dusting off my lawn chair now and getting a beer, can I get you one?

Try it. You wont get any damage from using low octane gas a few times. Then check mpg and performance and see if you are actually saving money.

If you dig too deep you will frustrate yourself by reading 10 page posts of people going off on a tangent.

Best you can do is see for yourself.

IMHO your friend didn't quite give you the whole story.

You can use regular 87 octane all the time without adding anything. I have for over 50k with no problems. Had a few steak dinners with the savings

Some of the others will surely chime in shortly with their advice.By tomorrow you may have a headache?

Telcoman is right, if you don't push your G and live on level terrain, you might be fine with 87 octane.

Mine goes PING PING PING on 87. So I don't use it.

I've been told that the PING PING PING is BAD BAD BAD by my mechanic buddys.

Good luck with your research!!

Read the owner's manual. Use the lowest REQUIRED octane.

For example, in my 2006 owner's manual, the sedan can use lower octane than the coupe.

FUEL RECOMMENDATION:Sedan modelsUse unleaded regular gasoline with an octanerating of at least 87 AKI (Anti-KnockIndex) number (Research octane number91).For improved vehicle performance,INFINITI recommends the use of unleadedpremium gasoline with an octane rating ofat least 91 AKI number (Research octanenumber 96).

Coupe modelsUse unleaded premium gasoline with anoctane rating of at least 91 AKI (Anti-Knock Index) number (Research octanenumber 96).If premium gasoline is not available, unleadedregular gasoline with an octanerating of 87 AKI number (Research octanenumber 91) may be temporarily used, butonly under the following precautions:- Have the fuel tank filled only partiallywith unleaded regular gasoline, andfill up with unleaded premium gasolineas soon as possible.- Avoid full throttle driving and abruptacceleration. However, for maximum vehicle performance, the use of unleaded premium gasolineis recommended.

Thanks guys

I think I will still keep using 91 for a white. However, if the price is going crazy, I'll try 89..

Do you know why the G is such a great car? It is due to the fact that there is a little FORD in every Gs. Yep, they melt down the old ones, and recycle the metal. That recycled metal becomes, you guessed it, Asian cars. Therefore, your Infiniti has Ford in its bloodline, probably as close as a generation too. Sorry Will, but you might be driving telcoman's 1958 FORD reincarnate. Post a few bigger pictures and we'll tell you for sure.

Sorry, what were we talking about, oh yes, gas and heat. Carry on.

Should have had a VW. I had one that never started in the rain either. But with a VW, you just pick the back up and spin the back tires a couple of times.

I actually LOLed regarding the Ford reincarnate thing.

I prefer to think of my hood as two trash cans worth of Dr. Pepper cans.

My windshield wiper fluid resevoir and anti-freeze/coolant resevoir as a few dozen shasta 3 liter soda bottles

My windows as a hundred or so corona bottles (smell them, they still have that lime/salt smell )

And my tires as wasted eraser shreds (that's why tires are black, you know? Because of all of the graphite!!! )
