I'm getting ready to take my 06 coupe in for the 30K service and I also have a couple other issues to address. One is a completely intermittent problem of not being able to refuel the car completely. The fuel pump will shut off as if the tank is full, yet it's only 1/2 full the most. Removing the nozzle and putting it back in doesn't help as it clicks off as soon as you start pumping again. Next stop, I'm able to refill the tank completely as the problem is completely intermittent. Any ideas? I'm still under warranty until August, however, I want to be able to provide as much info if I get the "unable to duplicate" response.

Take it in now. That way, if Dealer A can't find the issue, Dealer B can hopefully fix it before the warranty runs out.

Its probably a fuel shutter valve sticking. the tip gets a little rusty for some reason. It was pretty common in 03 and some 04 models. Even in my sedan. Make sure you have less than a quarter tank so the dealer can do it. Its not a complicated fix.

Good luck,

I went though this a few years ago. The car went back to Oakvil** Infiniti 4 times in two weeks just before the warranty was up. It is still not right.

They claimed the shutter valve was acting up but never did explain what they did, or didn't do.

Also note the fuel gauge registers 7/8 full when the tank is actually full. What a pain.

I think it is only for the older models. The second generation is ok. At least I have not heard any.

My car is in the shop now for that very thing. It is a TSB. Something in the gas tank. They had to take my whole backseat out to get to it. Aggrivating as CRAP. I hate to stop and get gas when it is 20 degrees outside bad enough without having to fight the nozzle to get the gas to go in.

I sure hope they fixed mine. (I still don't have my car back)

I guess I'm just the lucky one.

Poyz....why have they had my car so long? I'm beginning to worry that they have wrecked it or something. I have never had a shop keep a car of mine for over a week. They say they can't find what is making the dash rattle.

I WANT MY SKYLER!

I hate to sound like a spoiled rotten brat, but they could at least give me a car with XM.

Thanks for the responses. I've got an appointment tomorrow morning to take the car in. I'm hoping they can fix it. My experience with Infiniti service thus far has been good. Last summer I had a shudder in the transmission and they replaced the valve body assembly. They only had to keep the car 1 night.

Valve Body is a pretty easy swap though. I can remove the VB, install a shift kit, and reinstall the VB in 4 hours. There is something like 60 bolts that you remove, 12 different sizes.

Refueling issues are a more difficult problem because they have to isolate the problem and test to make sure its a fix when they try something.

Knock on wood, but I just got back from picking the car up and they fixed the problem. Or at least I hope so as it is intermittent. Service advisor seemed familiar with the problem as he said he used to have a G35 that did that. Dropped the car off at 8:30 and they called me around 3PM to advise it was ready. The repair? Installed updated "cut bracket" to fill limit valve per ITB08-041A. Since I knew they were working with the fuel system, I didn't tank up before so I had to get gas after picking the car up. I was able to to fill the tank completely so I'm hoping this fixed it.

I also got a brand new(and I mean virgin) G37 sedan as a loaner. Base model so no extra options, but it did have XM active. I kept smelling something hot after driving it around and then looked at the odometer and it had 47 miles! Definitely a different animal than my G35 coupe which has the 19" wheel and sport suspension package.

The sedan definately rides better. It is just strange for me to have all that "stuff" behind me. I think I have only had 1 4-dr car in my life and that was only for a year. Of course, after my S2000 the coupe seemed huge.

OK everyone, thanks for posting these discussions, I too have also noted I can only fill to just below the fill line, I used to get 100 or more km on the tank before even dipping under the line.

So, I think I'm having a similar problem. Remember last week I was pissed about my mileage? I think this may be a factor, but I'm still noting lower than usual MPG since my transmission flush? weird? I think so.

How much would the parts/labour cost to someone out of warranty like myself?

IT'S GOT TO BE THE FUEL!!!!

Sorry for all caps, but I'm screaming! lol, Seems odd all these cars of various ages are experiencing similar symptoms, I wonder if it's brand specific or if these types of issues are noted by other manufacturers? I would be interested to learn more.

It is strange, I noticed when I topped it right up the other day, it was below the fill line, got home later, and it was above, I don't get this?

What crap are they adding to the fuel now? We should all be entitled to 93+.

I stop at the same Exxon 95% of the time. I always use 93 octane. Sometimes I can almost fill it...sometimes I can barely get 1/2 tank.

Strangely, in the two and a half year of G ownership, I have had the 1/2 fill problem, and that happened one really hot day almost two years ago... At a reputable gas station. I may take it to a shop, or procrastinate, as usual.

At first, I only had problems on hot days. I was beginning to think it was a heat related phenomenon (sp). Then I started having the problem when it was 20 degrees, so that blew that theory.

The biggest thing I noticed about the sedan was it was MUCH quieter than my coupe. Road noise, engine noise, exhaust noise, etc, all much lower. I do like hearing the throaty exhaust on my coupe so thats not a complaint, but the road noise level is pretty high. Anyone know if second gen coupes are quieter?

As for the refueling problem, mine occured at random times and at random gas stations. First time I noticed it was last summer so it was in hot weather and it didn't do it again for a while so I thought it was a fluke. Then last winter, it did it to me. And then again several weeks ago, so weather and the gas station didn't seem to matter. The only constant was the tank was at about 1/4 or less when I stopped and I was unable to refuel more than 1/2 way. I'm going to be paying close attention to this in hope that the fix they did resolved it as my warranty is up in August.

I think mine is fixed. Put in $50 last night with no problem. I have never put that much gas in that car.
