Any reccomendations on where to get some parts to refresh our VH45DE's? Just want new gaskets before we drop them into the 240's to save some headaches later. Also a timing kit.

I assume we're talking about a 90-93 engine (since you mentioned the timing kit)? Most gaskets are RTV, so you'll need to pull, clean, and reseal with a tube or two of liquid gasket. Other than the timing chain guides - you want to replace all of the hoses under the plenum, knock sensors and harness, plenum gaskets, front and rear main seals, etc. Head gaskets and oil pan gaskets seem to be pretty much bulletproof on this engine.

Oh yeah, go ahead and replace the oil pressure switch.

Please let us know over here when you have pics. of your completed project.

i agree with heath..... Just think about what is a pain in the butt to replace when the enigne is in the car, and it will take abot 1/4 of the time with the engine on a stand...

id take everythign apart to the longblock and reseal/replace/fix as necessary.

We compression tested both of the motors yesterday, 60-90 all around, added a little oil into the cyclinders, and retested, bymp up to 190-210 across the board except on 1 motor, the driver bank only hit 150 on cylinder 1 and 3, and the second motor hit 120 on passenger bank on cylinder 4. Hoping they'll jump up after we crank the motors, but we might go ahead and have the yard get us 2 more motors. We fit one of the motors yesterday and are getting started on the adapter plate for the Z32 transmission this week. Just debating on wether to rock the motors as they sit just to finish them, and build to motors for boost, or go ahead and completely refresh these 2.

Why 'build them for boost'. we already know that a well maintained VH45 can handle 8-10lbs of boost fairly reliably.... Not sure if youd want more than 500HP in a 240.

scary.
