Hello

Does anyone know what type of paint they use to refinish the dash, I had my dash replaced under warranty in 1993. The dash has developed small bubbles in the surface and I was considering having it refinished.

Thanks!

Stewart

Any vinyl paint should work. Just be sure to carefully mask everything you don't want painted and thoroughly clean and prep with acetone or other solvent. Never saw a Q45 with a bad dash even ones that weren't garaged.

It was my understanding from the dealer that the dash comes black and was they had it painted dark blue to match, I was thinking of removing the dash and having the whole thing refinished, the bubbling is only the paint the dash pad is like new, for that matter so is my interior, it has really stood up well over the years, I keep thjinkiing I should buy a 2005 Loaded Q45 but I don't really like the style compared to my old Q45, so I just keep maintaining it and it keeps going and going... it just bugs me to see these liitle pimples on the dash that have developed, There was a person i met at a dealership who said it would be hard to refinish because the pimples are near the defrost vents and hard to get at.

Thanks for the help!

not to be contrary but be sure to test an unseen area if you choose acetone for a solvent. on a slightly different approach. a custom cut dash cover might satisfy your needs. i have one in a matching color, not because of any defects but because of glare. i don't usually go for ''add ons'' but really like it. it reduces heat & eliminates glare. all for $50.00

One of my few complaints about my Q- glare from the dashboard. At the right time of day it's brutal, especially when the dash is shiny clean.

If your dealer used a black replacment dash and "painted" it blue to match your interior, they are complete MORONS, the dash, and all other vinyl/leather items come from the factory in the correct color,NEVER painted in the field to match.

My dash pad (black) also threw up a ton of glare, and I thought it was just due to age, and the previous owner(s) just left it in the sun to deteriorate.

I went with the $45 special...a black dash cover, custom cut for the Q, with the proper cutout for the passenger airbag. Knocked out about 75% of the glare problem. And it kept the original dash pad, which actually was in good condition, stock.

Any upholstery shop can refinish it. Most likely by respraying it, done often with leather seats.

As long as you are not changing the color, you'll never know it was done.

Of course, this will cost you a lot of money-my guess would be $300 minimum.

Make sure you use a product similar to this before you apply the paint:

It's been a few months, and I deleted the e-mails, but I got it off Ebay, and it came with a cover for the rear deck as well, which was cut out for a Q with the 3rd brake light on the rear deck, and not the trunk lid like mine.

Cost I've seen was a low of only $15, plus the usual shipping cost. It'll flatten out and sit nice in about 3 weeks.

As far as glare goes, I just wear sunglasses.
