ref tickets advice

i recently got a ref ticket for loud exhaust 27150. The cop was real nice about it. He asked me where my silencer was and i told him i lost it when i moved and I had already ordered one from ebay. The silencer should get here either tomorrow or Wednesday. I think he pulled me over just to check on things but needed a reason and cited me for the exhaust. The exhaust is a 4inch Megan racing exhaust, from the inside and outside its not that loud. Now i have a appointment on Thursday with a ref,

my two questions are:

1) put silencer on and take it to the ref? or2) put stocked back on ($30) take it to ref, ($30) to put exhaust back on?

I'm stumped.

your paying someone to put your exhaust on? its only a few bolts. throw that b**** on jackstands and swap exhausts if the silencer doesnt work out the first time

i was thinking the same thing with the silencer. Either way i'm still have to pay for something. I figure i take the silencer route and if that fails then i can just swapped the stock back on.

i dont have jackstand or a jack ATM, nor do i have any friends that does. =(

call me stupid or whatever. but how can you get a ticket for a loud exhaust? is it just a cali thing? in Pa as long as its not falling off and not leaking you win at the court house everytime if you get a ticket at all when you bring up the fact that motorcycles are like 3 times louder. im not trying to be stupid just curious!

You must've never been to CA or never read up on any import car forums. Yes, it's a norm in CA to get bs tickets and the laws on their side.

Is the exhaust louder than 95 dB?

what exhaust do you have? I failed with my silencer in and had to put on my stock one to pass. stock exhaust was already at like 86db. save ur self some time and put on the stock exhaust the first time so that u dont have to get it re tested.

My brother had this problem with his car and they gave him a smog test so be ready, i don't know why but they said it was part of the fix. Just make sure your exhaust has a quiet and you should be fine

walmart has a floorjack, 2 jackstand combo for 30 bucks.

dude that jack SUUUUUUUCCCKS!buddy got that set and i didn't want to put any part of my body under the car with that holding it up. I used a 2x4 to position the stands.
