Once again I have a simple question to ask you people that have had your cars for a long time now. Does it help the car or does it make the car worse if you take the spare tire out. I know that it is putting presure on the rear tires but it is also just alot of general weight. How about the back seats? For me the back seats are never used because the car is so small and I was wondering if I should take them out or am I just wasting my time if I do all of this? Thanks!

less weight = better. 100lbs out = .1 sec better quarter mile.

Yes...The car itself weighs in at about 2700 lbs. (I think) So start taking out some stuff;). The back seat sounds good hehe...

you can feel a slight difference in response, but the s13 stuff doesnt really weigh much, but i dont know what car you have, too lazy to check your profile. and it wouldnt be wasting too much time anyway, 10 - 15 minutes, give it a whirl.

Well, I know that the actual seat part is very light weight foam but I am not sure about the back rest part of it. So should I take out the tire or no? Thanks.

the tire and jack is where you get most of your weight saving, and also the back of the seat, i just put mine back in the other day. i didnt take the paneling out though, youll probably save about 30lbs or so, i think, but im not sure, i never weighed it. take it out, youre going to eventually anyway.

Don't take out the spare for daily driving, in my opinion the risk isn't worth it (even if you have AAA). Only take it out before you go on track.

On the other hand the back seats are pretty useless, heavy, and are easy to remove.

if i remem right the back seat is only about 20lbs. if you are a daily driver that does not help you out at all. if you are REALLY stressed for weight then go for it but otherwise its not a big deal. if you are going to try to put your car on a diet you either have to go all the way or its not worth it. after you take out the tire and seat you should rip out all the noise resistant padding and take out your stereo and rip out the a/c and start your car on the atkins diet. then you are light weight.

You miss the point of removing the rear seats. sure it only saves you 20lbs in daily driving.. but it comes in handy when your girlfriends moron friends need to get dropped off down the street. Saves you 300lbs of skank!

I've heard that getting rid off 100pounds is like gaining 10hp acceleration wise. Is that true?

there are a lot of things you can do for "weight reduction". Taking spare and jack out defiately help. You also dont need that cardboard thing and the carpet in your trunk, that could be another 15 lbs. You can tear up all your carpet in your car, and pull the sound deadening material out. Just look around your car, if you see something that doesnt need to be there, take it out.
