I have a 1999 I30 with 73000km and I have been experiencing some noticeable shift shock on 2-1 downshifts (when coming to a dead stop). I've been told be a couple of mechanics that this is normal shift shock for the car.

I am currently using 89 octane gas. IN THEORY is it possible that this shift shock can be reduced by using at least 91 octane gasoline? Would engine timing changes with the increased octane affect the shift quality of the transmission?

No effect on downshifts where engine is at idle.

Try adding 4-5-6 ounces of Lubeguard Black formula to ATF. The slip enhancers may solve the problem. Works for lock up clutches on TC clutch.
