redtop vs. blacktop

Well, im not a newb or anything, but im wondering, which one is a better motor, the redtop or blacktop, and if their the same, why does ti matter what model you get? Just a simple question for you guys that have either one.

The S13 has two motors, the redtop and the blacktop.....they are the same save for a few minor differences.....the difference is that the blacktops are newer and typically have less miles. That's it, that's why people like them better. Or they just think the black valve cover is prettier.

Ok, and another thing ive heard is the Black-top i think has some minor ECU changes and better emmisions. Is this correct?

When I first started researching and looking into doing the swap, I was told that the redtop head flows air better than the blacktop. I was also told that it is easier to tune, because you don't have to take the variable valve timing into consideration, like you do on the later model blacktops.

drifterforlife-someone asks this seriously once a week, and we all give our opinions, so, read what we have all said in the past year and enjoy.

phax-the blacktop you are referring to is the s14 blacktop, which is a different motor, it has more hp and the vvt, the s13 blacktop is the same as the redtop except the ecu, emissions changes-o2 sensor, and they are newer and less mileage but thats more money, ive said all of this like 4 times in the past week and there is a sticky about it for love of god, work with me people
