Hey so I have been having problems with my redtop sr20det for the past week or so and with plenty of searching haven’t found anything definitive. So ill start from the beginning and tell all my symptoms.

So one day I drove over to my girlfriends house and when we went to leave my car wouldn’t start and made a loud grinding noise so I got my brother over to push start my car and it started perfectly so I drove it back to my house then ordered a ISIS OE replacement starter, when it came installed it and it started my car up with no grinds and ran perfectly then after it warmed up I shut it off then tried to start it again then it tried to start then died and after that it won’t start or fire it just cranks constantly. So I did a lot of research found that most people fix it with replacing the CTS which I already replaced a couple weeks ago and I cleaned my MAF with still no luck, checked the orange wire under my dash.

This morning I went to start up my car and fired up and started easily then let it warm up then killed it then tried starting it on and off like 6 times and worked perfectly every time then let it sit for 10 min then tried it again and it tired to start then died then will just crank constantly until I wait a day and try it again.

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions of what to try next?

I've had a similar issue. I don't want to lead you the wrong direction but I am just going to ignore all the issues with the starter.

Do you happen to have a wide band to see if you are running rich?

In my case it was the car running very rich due several things. I wired my 02 connector on wrong so the ECU was getting a constant 12v. My Maf was faulty and reading higher voltages, as well as a bad fuel pressure regulator. I could drive it around fine, but if I shut it off it would have to sit for at least 5 hours before it would start again. Like I said I don't want to lead you in the wrong direction, it may be electrical.

Next time it wont start pull your fuel pump fuse then crank the car without the pump, give it 10 - 20 seconds. If it fires then you know where to start looking.

Also try pulling a plug and see if its getting spark when it occurs.

Ok so yesterday I checked for leaky injectors nothing was even slightly leaking when i pulled the fuel rail and turned it to the on position.

Then I got it to not start then pulled the first spark plug it wasn't wet or anything so i checked for spark by starting it with the spark plug sitting on the valve cover and my car started up fast so i shut it down quickly cause it tried to rev really fast. Then when i put the spark plug back in i tried to get it to not start again and I couldn't somehow that fixed it.

I am still perplexed as how that fixed anything and I would like to figure out what was causing it cause ill be worrying for the next couple of weeks about turning my car off anywhere.

Sounds like you had a loose connection

Ya that was what i was thinking but could a lose connection on the first spark plug cause my car to not fire at all? and just crank endlessly when it fails to start just once
BTW I am running a Split Fire Coil Pack Ignition

I'm thinking more like a loose connection to everything, and you moving that plug around reseated the connection. You may want to go over all of your ignition connections, because if I'm right, it's going to most likely happen again.

I do my best ;) Hopefully you'll become an active member on NICO and you'll then understand why I lurk here so often.

Ok so I ran into the same problem again today where my car failed to start then would just crank forever. So I pulled my fuel pump fuse and cranked it for like 2 seconds and my car started up and idled for a few seconds before i turned it off.
So I am guessing since i previously checked my injectors and they weren't leaking that my stock FPR is getting overrun by the Walbro High-Pressure 255 pump.

Just looking to see if this could be the only problem that could cause this before I order a FPR.

Also on the same subject is a ISIS Fuel Pressure Regulator vs. Aeromotive Fuel Pressure Regulator same as in reliability?

I run a stock FPR. But I had similar issues when it went bad. I replaced it with a spare FPR and now its all good.

id replace the fpr. the walboro will just wear the stock regulator out. ive been running the nismo adjustable with an inline gauge for over a year and half and no problems.

You ever get this problem solved? I am having a similar issue as well. I'm going to post mine here too.
