that "canister" you speak of is part of the low pressure line. This is why when you wiggle it, R-134a hisses out. BTW, you shouldn't be able to wiggle it and have the R-134a hiss out. That either means your bolt is not tight enought or the o-ring needs to be replaced.
Also, in order for the center part of the compressor wheel to spin, you need to engage the magnetic clutch in the compressor wheel. To do that, you need to figure out the wiring. A lot of people recommend splicing those two (i forget which ones) at F3 plug but that didnt work for me.
What I did was hook up a manual switch to ground the ground wire at the tripe pressure switch which engages the AC relay and sends 12V to the compressor wheel to engage the clutch.
Make sure you bump up your idle as I had trouble with my car stalling during decel with the AC on.
