Is it possible to run a redtop ecu with my 98 blacktop motor? No one seems to tune j4 ecu's....

my buddy has ran his blacktop with a 62 ecu and it ran fine but i'm not sure if it was a late model blacktop....

any help with this matter would be greatly appreciated! thanks in advance!

You will need to rewires a few pins on the engine harness and replace the O2 sensor with a redtop compatible sensor.

The main differences are the coilpack pins but the O2 wiring is slightly different as well.

so would i have to cut and replace the coilpack pin plugs with the redtop plugs? (same for the o2 sensor?)

or do i change them in a different way?

You can do it however you want to. If it were me I would repin the ECU, problem solved.

i really appreciate your help dude! i'm somewhat of a newbie when it comes to wiring but i'm really trying to learn

so i assume i would change the connectors on the ecu to match up to the blacktop harness plugs? where could i get info on repinning? i've never ever done this before but i know it's probably relatively simple...thanks man!

just take a small allen key and grind the tip of it so its flat and sharp, then you can stick it in the part of the ecu connector which holds each pin in place to get the pin to release, then gently pull out the wire which will release the pin.

i had to repin my redtop harness ecu connector to work with a late model blacktop power fc.

if u have a/c you'll have to rewire the a/c pin too.

i didnt bother to switch o/2 sensors, i just unplugged mine.

oh and thanks speedracer for that ecu pinout diagram. you rock
