Hey there guys, I found some wheels that I am really interested in, but the problem is, the bolt pattern is 4x4.25(4x108 i think) instead of 4x4.5(4x114.3). I wanted to know if I were to have them redrilled, will they just redrill the existing holes or drill entirely new holes?Does anyone know a shop in SoCal that can redrill the holes for me? Thanks for your help.

Oh, it's been done. It's just not right. Now the first thing people do when they read my opinion is go out and do the exact opposite.

I have seen aftermarket wheels, that were redrilled to a close bolt pattern, where the steel seat insert (where your lug nut sits in that case) crushed the horse shoe shape opening and allowed the wheel to actually walk right off of the studs. That means his wheel fell off, and on his studs there sat a set of steel lug nut seat inserts with lugs attached, but no wheel. This happened on the freeway. The wheel was nowhere to be found, probably lodged in some bushes along the side of I-5 Southbound at exit 116. That's where I had to go in the service truck to help this mutt.

GOOD LUCK!

wow... that does not sound good. But from what I have read, the 4x108 to 4x114.3 redrill is fairly common. I think the old school RX-7's do it the most. I know alot of people redrill their hubs and rotors for a different bolt pattern, like alot of 240 owners get their hubs and rotors redrilled for 5-lug conversion or infiniti brake conversion. I figure redrilling the wheel would be alot safer than redrilling the hubs and rotors, but perhaps that is an incorrect assumption. I guess I will do some more research, and hopefully find a shop locally that has experience doing this successfully.

Only certain kinds of rims are meant to be dual-drilled. It has to do with the wheel's hub mounting surface.

We drill wheels for our customers. If it is done right you will not have any problem with an "inserted" wheel. The wheels on my fiances car are inserted because they whetre drill off-center from the factory. We took them to our machine shop and haven't had any problems. It has been 4 years now.
