So the last few days have been 90+. Driving 80 miles one way in this is getting old, so Im redoing my car's AC system. Replaced the dryer, made sure the compressor and clutch are in good shape. replaced a couple O rings that were questionable. Now I have it sitting under vacuum. It has been at 28lbs for the last 30 mins or so. Waiting until after my wife pulls the chicken off the grill and we eat and Ill go check to make sure it still "is Sucking". I drained the oil out of it and replaced it with Ester oil.

Help me out here, what, if anything, am I missing?

Drained the oil? Added ester oil? Never heard of that, hopefully that won't be a problem of it's own when refilling the system.
Speaking of re-filling, hopefully you do realize that your 1990 R12 system will have to be updated to take the new R13 refrigerant, as the current OEM setup is not legal.
Here in Wa. state they won't even talk to you unless you're ready to update the system there, and everyone reminds you of this buying a "refill kit" so hopefully you're ready for that extra, exorbitant expense to just have a slightly cooler car as the refill kit only works if your system has been previously updated.

Ester is compatible with both r12 and r134. Incase there is any contaminant left in the system. Shouldnt be as it was under vacuum for over 3 hours prior to filling it with r134. Drained the oil as the r12's mineral oil is not compatible with r134.

Never heard of r13... and here is Virginia Ive never had an issue with switching to r134. sadly I have never bought a car that had a working AC system in my life. and at last count I have gone through about 20 of them.... I was mainly wondering if there was anything Z related that I may have missed.

A new one to me, but I'm definitely not "up" on the A/C end because I don't use them. I'm not sure about the R13/134 thing, could just be a small difference or maybe even my mis-memory of that scenario years ago.
Only issue I can think of is the needed updated refrigerant, so carry on- sounds like you know more than me! :bigthumb:
