So I was reading a while back In Turbo Mag, where they did a test on 4 different water wetters mixed with straight distilled water on a Honda.......and was curious if anyone has tried it on their CA?The temp drops were pretty good........Cruising temp dropped 9 degrees4000 rpm cruising dropped 12 degrees5000 rpm hill climb dropped 8 degreesExtended idling droped 10 degreesCyl. head dropped 9 degreesRad. temp dropped 8%

The 3 other brands were DEI Radiator relief, Hyper Lube Supper Coolant, and Juistice Brothers Radiator Cooler. Juistice came in first, and Redline in second. Redline actually did slightly better when mixed with a 30/70 antifreeze/ water mix with Honda coolant.

My question is........is it ok to run a straight water/ wetter mix on a daily driver? One thing they didn't mention, and is my biggest concern, is winter time driving.......it gets in the teens here...........I wonder if it'll freeze?

if it gets into the teens there, with just water you will freeze up. and running just water in the engine after months(like 6-9) w/o draining/changing it can cause corosion problems, antifreeze has anti-corosive properties.

i would definetly run atleast some antifreeze. mainly for the corrosion like zero said. if you say the redline performed better with the 30/70 mix (maybe it was designed to be used along w/ antifreeze) then why not just run that? too low operating temperatures be bad too for combustion

The article mentions that all 4 different brands have corrosion inhibitors, and that you don't have to worry about rust or corrosion.Yeah, the redline brand got better numbers using with a 30/70 mix (Honda brand coolant), but the Justice brothers brand out cooled redline, using with straight water. As far as over cooling, if your using a 180 t-stat, then it still won't open till then....right? It's not like using a 160 degree t-stat, which IS bad over time.I may give it a try for summer anyways........what got my attention in the article was lower cylinder head temps equal less chance of detonation

you're right that if you use a 180* thermostat, it will run at atleast 180*. what the redline does, is when you're under load, it keeps tempuratures closer to 180*.

if you're taking a drive up a hill at 65 miles an hour, you're temp is gonna be at (just an example) 197*, but with the Redline, you'll run at 191*.

detonation would happen if you weren't at operating temp, and ran the crap outta you're motor, beacuase it's designed to work with the heat that is going to always be there.

I run a 180* thermostat and 70/30 water to antifreeze mix in the winter, with my e-fan set at 180*.

In summer, I run straight distilled water, a 160* thermostat, RedLine Water Wetter, and my fan set at 170*.

Good stuff. Those two combos keep my car at or around 180-185* year round.

As was stated, I believe that the redline has corrossion inhibitor in it. I've used it before with straight water and it worked quite well. I was actually using a 160° thermo at the time and I didnt' like it. I put a 190° thermostat in there for this winter, but I plan on dropping down to a 180° thermo for this summer.

I didn't like the 160° because my pistons weren't quite warmed up at that temp and were noisy at certain RPMS.

I'm using redline and water again this summer.
