Bought a box of the Redline from Amazon about 2 or 3 years ago. Paid about $50 - $60. Now they want more than $100. Does anyone have a cheaper supplier? Thanks.

I switched over to Amsoil which I get for $10 a quart (Pep Boys usually doesn't have Redline in CA) and it is very good stuff...I think a little better than redline based on a few things. If you can find a local dealer than you save shipping on a very heavy package.

We were referring to fuel injector cleaner, not oil.

But on the topic of oil,I totally disagree with your comment that amsoil "is a little better" than Redline. Amsoil is a MARKETING company, that just so happens to sell oil, along with vitamins and lawn fertilizer.....and uses BS marketing to do so.

I gotta sat bull crap.......here is my evidence, I have used Redline, Royal Purple, Mobile 1, Castrol Syntec, Valvoline Syn, in all my cars and every single one of these products, all good ones, my old 84' would tap its lifters for 6-10 seconds on a cold start. This problem began happening in the about the 1992 timeframe and I lived with it assuming one day I would have to rebuild. Than about 3 years ago found a local Amsoil dealer who has a store here in the Bay Area. Another member who got kicked off this board (Kevin Falk) that knows more about cars and Q's than pretty much anybody here on this board recommended Amsoil to me (he didn't try to sell me any, but met him when he sold me some springs) which he was buying cheaper than I was paying for Redline. I gave 5 quarts a shot in the old Z and finally no lifter noise EVER. I than started to use it in my Q and X-Terra and you can run their products for more than 15k or 1 year. I had an analysis done on the oil after 9 months in the Q and it was still complely in spec, so my goal is to have the oil stay in the crank case longer as i don't do a daily commute and i have 3 cars I drive.

I have also used their gas treatment and it cured a slight hesitation issue I had in the old Z too, which BTW, is extremely well maintained for the entire life of the car as I am the original owner.

I have tried them all, I have NEVER seen an ad for Amsoil, they invented synthetics, they are a value in my book and the only ads I get are their fliers once in a blue moon with other products. I now have their fluids in every crank case I own and they are slightly cheaper for me than what I can source Redline for and in my book slightly better.

One of their biggest BS marketing tactics is to promote they "invented" or were "first" with synthetics,a total false statement.....there were synthetic oils years {if not decades" before amsoil was invented,do some research if you need further proof. if boiled down to maybe, possibly, somewhat true, amsoil MAY have been one of the first to pay to have their synthetic product CERTIFIED by the API. { no big deal, as some of the BEST oils are not api certified even today, including amsoils best oil and redline, both would have to "dumb down" their ingrediants to pass} Remember, amsoil does not make any of their basestocks, they are purchased mainly through Exxon/Mobil {and possibly some others, but E.M. is their main supplier.

No oil, repeat NO oil is going to fix or cure a MECHANICAL problem, your valvetrain noise may have subsided due to a difference in thickness of oil,{quieting the noise} or simply the detergents in the oil cleaned a clogged lifter.

As far as the BS marketing,in addition to the above, they continue to promote in their literature and website tests that have NO industry support for what amsoil is using them for- prime example is their silly "4 ball wear test"- a test that has no professional recognition or support for use with motor oils or internal combustion engines { it is a valid test for gear oils used in gearboxes, NOT motor oils used for lubricating engines}

Lets NOT even get started on the thousands of "independant" amsoil dealers who know ZIP about oils, engines, or lubrication and give the company a horrible reputation by flooding every/any message board with their propaganda { a quick visit to bob is the amsoil {I mean ,oil} guy} will make one sick- if it is not a direct "dealer" dissing or making one question any other oil but amsoil, it is one of their cheerleaders.....it is so bad over there that the site owner will send a PM warning a member to "back off" if one questions or disagrees with one of the amsoil dealers who is a member there pushing their product- the website owner will flat out tell you the amsoil members are PAID sponsers of the site, and to stop questioning/disagreeing with them, as the site needs their financial support to operate.

As far as the qualifications to be a "independant amsoil dealer" ????????? if you can fog a mirror {be alive} and send $20, you are officially a "amsoil distributor" think not? look into it. Your grandmother could become a dealer in 24 hours, with ZERO knowledge about oils, lubricants, or even knowing where the dipstick is located under a hood of a car.......quite a way to run a company, dont you think? ZERO credentials or knowledge or experience or training needed.....just $20 and the ability to influence the purchasing habits of your friends, family or co-workers........

Really no different from ANY other "multi level" aka pyramid marketing company....think Amway, Herbalife,Mary Kay,tupperware, pampered chef, cutco knives.....the list goes on-

I am not saying Amsoil is "bad", it is just no better than any of the other oils you spoke of, and their marketing tactics and business model{multi level marketing} is enough to turn off many.

OK, qship96 and badq45t, can we please get back on the thread?!

I can get Redline Sl-1 at Amazon or PepBoys, although they're a haul from me and don't have it by the case. Other cheaper sources would be appreciated. Thanks.

We ARE on track, discussing Amsoil and Redline, who both make motor oils AND FUEL INJECTOR cleaner.....and I already told you the lowest price you are going to find in the beginning of the thread.....unless some retailer has a "special" "limited time only" sale, it is what it is- pay the 7 bucks per bottle, or order elsewhere for more- sorry, thats the best price anywhere currentl

7 bucks, 10 bucks a bottle.....even using it every quarter, thats $28-40 per year......how much time do you want to "shop around" to get your annual cost much lower???? Insignificant expenditure in the total annual running costs of an old Q.

You're right. It's not that much although I am using it in 3 cars. I should use it more sparingly as Redline suggests.

You will notice the recent bottles have the graduated ounces markers removed, guess they are no longer promoting a small dose per tankful of fuel- a bottle every 5,000 miles is probably more than most cars really need if using good fuels.

The Pep Boys for me is not that far, I will shoot past the local PB tomorrow and let you know if I see it there. Both are great products, to be honest I use the Techron quite often as I can get a 6 pack of that stuff for $13 bucks or so at Costco, I use that most often like every other fillup.
