Iron is a bit high but thats normal for Redline (they say the additive package "pulls it out")Copper is low, thats good.Lead is medium to lowAlu is low

Moly is high this is the tricky part:VH45de cylinder are Moly lined but the redline additive package also contains generous amounts of it, so its impossible to tell ( its a common additive these days, as oil vendors try to make up, for not being allowed to use ZDDP as anti-wear agent in the numbers they are used to ,so other AW agents such as Moly get subsituted)

The calcium is part of the anti wear package. So is the phosphorous (ZDDP slightly over the Max that API allows but thats not a bad thing and in any case probably within variance)

That viscosity number is it a typo?Or is it in units other than Cp?Cuz that number doesn't make sense.

TBN is too LOW!--->This oil was about to fail.

But just missed the failure point ( when buffers get overwhelemd by acidic by-products of combustion and cause the oil to turn acidic corrosion especially on bearing could/would have resulted)

You may have hi sulfur gas in your area, common source of low TBN and low oil life expectancy even with a high end oil such as Redline.

It is clear that the combination of oil and local fuel doies not support 6+ k OCI's.

You must change you oil more often if you dont want to have a close call like this again. In winter TBN tends to drop even quicker ( more blow-by during startup).

I must desagree, I do not belive that TBN is too low. I think it is fine especialy with 6K miles on the oil.

Look here

http://neptune.spacebears.com/....html

His TBN is in the ones and is still fine.

That means he had less reserve left.

how long would it take to get TBN down to 0?from 2?1000 miles 1500?

Either way too close for comfort.I like to see 3-4 as a minimum left.

Be interesting to now what individual compression is.Problem with high mileage changes to synthetics as the ring wear may have already been done and EXTRA combustion product get into oil yet it may not yet be a blue smoker.

Problem I have at 268K the oil ANY oil can't last long...........so with 3750/90 day changes.........the question is do I still use Mobil 1 or just go back to conventionals and change every 3,000 miles as the cold compression is below limit but during acceleration [off idle] the rings seal fine. Still and it doesn't use even a quart in 3,750.

All 200k engines should be seeing this effect

qtech, this engine has been using mobil 1 from 21,000 miles to 100,000 miles, always at 90 days or 5,000 mile changes, whichever came first.at 100,000 miles,i switched to redline at 90 day intervals, regardless of mileage-which has varied from 5,000-tops of 6500 miles-no inner city driving,no cranks without at least 20 minute driving-hate to see what a dino oil would be like at factory 7500 mile,180 day interval.will run this new batch of redline 90 days and resample-lab thought there might be an intake leak due to silicon and metal wear numbers, but i cant seem to find any,and ail filter had less than 15,000 miles on it and looks relativly clean.

update on oil analysis-after consultation with the experts at the lab, they feel dirt is bypassing the air filter, and recommend replacing-also to look for any intake leaks-i cant find any,and wouldnt OBD2 throw a code if there was a intake leak?air filter replaced.also recommended an Auto RX treatment to clean any possible varnish off the piston rings and help sealing, therefor reducing any blowby into the oil- any feedback or experience with this treatment? i feel with the always 90 day oil changes with synthetic, there should be no need to clean,am i correct here?will do another analysis in 75 days on the new batch of redline-also the oil may have a unusually low TBN,due to it being stored in a dishwasher clean stainless steel coffee mug for 48 hours before sampling kit arrived-q45 tech any thoughts on all this?

Since the input, of the only degreed Chemist, in this thread, seems neither wanted, nor solicited, I guess I wont post.

sorry Fred! your input is always welcomed!I directed this towards qtech based on his comment about compression and blowby, more so than the oil itself, please feel free to reply,{others too!}thanks!
