Redesigned 2009 FX

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

What do you like or not like about the new FX Body Style?

I personally like almost everything except the side vents and the rear hatch door, It makes the FX looks boxer than the previous model.

I had a 2005 FX45 and liked it very much. I was planning on getting a 2009 FX50, but the front was SO UGLY, I couldn't pull the trigger. Instead I got a 2008 EX35 for a great deal.

At first I thought the EX35 would be slower than my old FX45, but the pleasant surprise was that the EX35 is faster AND better on gas. The FX45 was TERRIBLE on gas.

The new FX is now more cartoonish than menacing. I would not buy one

Yes, the new grill of the FX is ugly for my taste. The EX35 has a more refined look. The FX is also a gas-guzzler.

being a former owner of a 05 fx35 myself, i agree. the new one is just way too ugly. although i must also mention that it's very difficult from going to the fx to the ex. the space is not near the same and to be honest with you, i have't noticed an increase is mpg either. well maybe 1-2 mpg, that's it. although it is faster but definitely doesn't handle the same.

it has too, it can barely get out of its own way. I'm really disappointed in the weight gain on the FX if you can't tell.

I went from the FX45 to the EX35 so the gas mileage difference has been huge for me.

Yesterday I went to buy a BBQ for my Fiancee's father as a house warming gift and when I saw the box in the store I said to myself "That shouldn't be a problem at all", when I went to put it into the EX, it didn't fit so I had to drive home with string holding the trunklid closed and the BBQ partially sticking out the back.

With the FX, it would've fit NO PROBLEM. When I saw the EX35 in the showroom, I didn't quite realize just how much space I was giving up.

That being said, the improved handling, acceleration and gas mileage is a great trade-off as I benefit from those things every day, whereas the lack of space only affects me a few times a year.

The EX should be very quick considering it has the same engine as the FX35 and a fraction of the weight.

I almost bought a FX45 but I am glad I went with the fully loaded AWD FX35 instead. Gas milage is not great but its bearable.

The FX50 seems to have lost a lot of the original design beauty with this new look. I could live with front but the back of the car looks to much like a truck or SUVFor the record I identify my FX as a crossover not a suv.I like the fact that its a different animal but now so many other manufactures are taking elements from the design I guess the designers were forced to change.

They should have upgraded to a 3.7 engine and left the rear of the machine as close the original as possible.

Enough time has passed for me to conclude that I cannot stand the front of the the new FX either. They should have kept the old body style added the new lights and updated the grill. The new FX is really heavy looking. It lost that magic the original had in its design by trying to make it look more like a car.Actually I think the concept car " Essence" may have influenced this design. Not a good mix.

A 2004 FX35 only weighed 4050lbs. A 2010 EX35 weighs 3750lbs.

Not a substantial difference.

we also had a previous generation fx and it's one of those designs that was so innovative that it won't be reproduced again. many have tried to copy it, i.e. subaru, lexus, many others but nothing else is like it. we unfortunately had to give ours back cause it was a lease and got our ex instead but there's if given the choice over again, i would definitely take an fx over an ex anyday. previous gen that is.

i don't know about the fx45 but our 05 fx35 compared to our 08 ex35, the fx got very near the same mileage, we're talking maybe 1 mpg difference. but for the extra room you get, along with the exhaust and of course tinted windows from the factory, the fx is still my favorite.

I liked the interior space of the FX35 better than the EX35 - not just the space but the door and seat treatments convey luxury effectively. I don't care for the side vents but really don't like the front grill - I think Infiniti has established a consistent design theme across their cars that is broken by the FX35 grill that looks needlessly busy. At the price of an FX35 I'd rather purchase an Audi Q5 which has a more adult look and excellent road manners.

There is an increase in the weight of the redesigned FX.It is also longer.I really find the back of the new FX unattractive. It looks like the designers wanted the FX to look like a car in the front and a suv in the rear. The rear lift gate was perfect in its previous incarnation. This reincarnation is a move in the wrong direction, away from the unique bubble design that made it a different animal. The new FX seems pretentious, excessive and gaudy.I hope they get it together with the next body style but I doubt it.The original FX is the most copied design since its unveiling in 2002 auto show.It introduced us to the tern crossover and set the pattern. Now it appears that The FX is not longer leading in design but following. The FX followed lines from the 2000 nissan maxima to influence its original front and grill. It appeared as if the body had to be stretched over the frame.Form followed function. This new model is a confusing mix of design concepts.
