Well some of you may know that months back i picked up superhatch's old heads with the mazworx cams.

I bought a house a few weeks later so they have been collecting dust for the last few months while ive been working on the house, well house is done and ive been kicking around the idea of slapping them on my current motor but i have to pull it out to do the job and if i have to go through all that trouble i might as well slap together a rebuilt bottom end with it.

So i have a spare good block with some high mileage i want to do up.

first thing , i have all the tools to do this job, i just have never rebuilt a japanese engine, lots of sbc and bbc though.

I have a few idea id like to kick around with you guys.

1. id like to knife edge the crank a bit, not crazy but just to lighten up the rotating assembly, i know ill lose tq, but the car has plenty so ill sacrifice a bit of tq for some more revs

2. rod bolts, last i heard sr20 rod bolts where interchangeable, did anyone confirm this?

3. bearings..... i was able to source a distributor that had a set of clevites in stock stnd size and .25mm undercut. Should i just stay oem or run the clevites

4. clearances, i know nissan motors run very tight clearances, they also love to spin bearings, the sr20 guys are running .0025 main clearnces and .0018-.00020 rods, you guys think that will work for the VH

keep in mind im trying to spin this motor to 8000rpms relativly reliably

and none of this vh45 is equal to a ferrari and gonna cost 1 zillion dollars to rebuild, keep in mind my application i dont need it to last 100k miles, only 10k miles lol

anyway any thing you guys could add would be apreciated

heres pics of the heads/cams/valvesprings and titanium retainers for those scoring at home

a properly rebuilt and spec'ed motor will last much longer than 10kmi...mine has seen non stop abuse for the past 3 years and over 50kmi now.

i just posted that for the people who would come in here and offer no help , except to say that "rebuilding a vh45 has to be done in the same clean room nasa rebuilds they're space shuttles and will cost so much obama will need to pass a 4th stimulus" lol

First off I say you definately need to score a torque wrench that goes to 300ft lbs. lol

If you want my 1 day old .040 over pistons and rings I can have my boy in Va Beach yank them out of my old engine and ship them to you if you like. No charge, you just have to help me with my Z. hehehe Lemme know if you want them and I can have him take them out and ensure they are all good. They should be, all of the damage was in the bottom end.

Allright cool, I'll send him a message and let you know when he gets them out. He was dying to pull the crank out and see what happened so I'm sure it will be no problem for him.

I'm in Alaska now working, probably for the next 3-4 weeks but I'll get up with you when I get back.

Spoke with him today and as soon as he gets the trans back in his truck he'll get on it.

Jerry,

Glad to see you're going to put those heads to good use.

I think T45's offer is great, but do give some consideration to higher compression pistons. It's not too much fun tearing into a motor multiple times...

Unless of course you have boost in your future.

I agree on the higher compression. This engine would be NAAAASTY with a higher comp ratio. Say.... 13.5:1? hehehe

Money talks...

or 9.0 to 1 and 15 psi but thats another story. T hold off on pulling the pistons, im gonna try to work out a deal with a shop to see if i can get aftermarket pistons. In either case ill still help you with your car lol.

Hey sweetness! I was wondering when i was going to see a thread from you on these heads. Can't wait to see how everything turns out! I expect nothing less than the excellent work you've done in the past.
