Is it possible to fit a red top engine to a s15 6sp transmission in a 1990 240sx? Also does anyone know if the 6sp transmission is any good? I thought i read somewhere that it was a bad transmission(noisy) but maybe i'll be proven wrong.

i heard people switch to earlier trannies because the s15 is weaker(truth to this?)

The transmission will bolt up with no problem, but good luck finding a place that sells only s15 trannys. Most places dont part them out and only sell s15 trannys with entire front clips or engines.

Its almost impossible to find a S15 transmission alone.

It bolts right up and is possible.

The S15 is said to be weaker because it has 6 gears in the same space as the 5 gears in the S13 and S14 trannys.

Just stick with the 5 speed, unless your doing the 6 for "show purposes" to win style points. Like Daunttless said its thought of as weaker by a few japanese people.

Acctull the s15 transmission is not weak it is just a very picky transmission the gears are just real close to each other so unless you really know how to drive a stick a s15 6 speed in not a good transmission. But that is true that a s15 will not be parted out they have to go with a s15 due to the s15 engine and transmission plus when a s15 clip is bought it has to be shipped in whole with the rear diff and all cus the speed sensor is located in the rear diff.
