Red Top RB20DET? what all was it available in and how do you id them by appl.

Red Top RB20DETs I know came in the 200zr. I am curious what else they came in. I have a friend that has a red top and it does not have a top mount intercooler he says. I know that 200zrs had a top mount but it could have been switched to a front mount. Is there any way to id that it is a 200zr engine and trans or what else did it come out of?

R31's are redtops with NCCS.

You don't want that thing, The Silver tops are much better than that thing. The Redtops have that butterfly setup on them where they stay closed untill a certin RPM then they open.

I don't anyone has done the wiring on it yet eithe. It's not the same ECU wiring as the Silver top RB20's. I got that one for free lol, I went to buy the Silvertop spare motor and he gave me that one for free. I Gave it to my friends dad so he could have somthing to make manifolds with.

redtop makes less power and parts for it are hard to come by, bottom end is pretty much the same from what ive read, but the head blows hard as its very restrictive.most ppl with redtop rb20's swap them out for silvertops.

I am wanting to do the 200zr swap. The engine set my buddy has includes the mounts and cross member with it. If it is a 200zr then that saves me some money. Plus after I get the setup I plan on doing a 26 swap if possible.

man to se a proper z31 to 200zr conversion here stateside would be mint!if it were me i would try and also get a silvertop motor and put that in instead of the redtop, have to swap oilpan, oil pickup,engine mount adaptors and xmember but otherwise its almost the same setup...post pics tho for sure as im keen to see how it goes.

Not 100% sure, but I don't think it would be a Laurel engine if it were a red top. My 90 has a Silvertop 20.

cool that helps. Do you know the difference between the 200zr and r31 engine? Is the R31 red top? and if so are there any differences? I need to make sure this one is a 200zr for the mounts and xmember. Thanks!

The R31 top model turbos should have had the Red top. Think they were called the GS-X or something like that.

Earlier R31 RB20DET models wre GTS's, then in 88 became GTS-X's(+a couple hp). Of course GTS-R's also had a tuned version with a little more power, but it's a rare collector's car so I don't think you need to worry about finding one of those.
