From what I've read supposedly the blacktop's oil squirters have a slightly better spray pattern and the block was manufactured with a different process, possibly making it slightly stronger. These could all be speculations though.

I went with the blacktop just because its newer.

If you have the money get the blacktop, especially if you are going to shoot for 300-400 hp. If you are going to stay stock, just get the redtop. The major difference is that the blacktop have the 54C pistons which are used in the s14 and s15 engines. I know they are still cast pistons but they either have a special coating or made differently and makes them more detonation resistant. Also the blacktop has a different oil pickup but thats kind of insignificant.

Same thing...If your going to mod the hell out of it...Get the redtop...If your going to leave things stock go with the black...
