Why are the earlier RED top's more popular than the later model and more powerful (in stock form) BLACK top????

I think its mostly because they are about a grand or more cheaper.

either a S13 redtop, or S13 blacktop...the S13 blacks have some bugs worked outta the ecu, and some better programing, but if your going high HP, youll prob go standalone anyway...

S13's have high port intake heads,s14's low port, 'most' prefer the flow of high port when going high HP...S14's are more expensive since they have VTC, which is usually removed when doing cams and building the head anyway, so is unecessary.

I dont see any benefits to having an S14 when it will be built anyway, i do understand people like lower milage and the swapping of S14 motors into S14's, but in the case of building a motor, id say go w/ an S13.

Is it possible to avoid a standalone ems when going high hp? You see i know the magazine's are full of s--t when they write up a car and alot will say that the stock ecu was reprogrammed(as was the case with the aug. turbo cover car on e-bay) do you really think he is running a modified stock ecu?

Email Jim wolf technology, they will send you a printout of all the stages they offer for the SR20det. they offer a "STAGE" type of system for the sr's, ya know, stage 1, 2, 3 , 4 etc...which they reprogram the stock SR's fuel curves etc, remove rev limiters, speed limiters, etc....thats most likely what he went with in that car. 400-450 i think is the highest level they do.

thats what my boy joe is running in his Se-r w/ SR20det...im running stock ecu w/ apexi s-afc.
