Car: 2009 Versa Hatch

Post

Hello versafans! I actually do not own a Versa yet, but my wife is very interested in buying a 2009 hatch soon. I think we just may do that. However, I'm not really impressed by the Versa's power or its mileage. I can live with one or the other, but to be lacking in both bothers me.

Anyway, I was looking through your forum and clicking some links. I've seen several cold air intakes, but what about short ram intakes? Are they fairly available for the Versa hatch?

Also, any expert advice on the Versa's fuel / emissions systems? Like I said, I like either good mileage or good power. The Versa isn't particularly impressive with either. I currently drive a '00 Saturn SL1 and average 40 + mpg city and well over 50 mpg on the highway. I'm just wondering if that is possible with the Versa. I'll try to figure the Versa out, but I'm looking for advice first.

I never got into the import modding / JDM scene so take it easy on the n00b, please. Thanks, guys.

I'm also looking for some visual mods - angel eyes, mesh grill, light / purty rims, led sidemarkers, etc. What's the right direction for that? Ebay?

Any info is good info.

I've only got 35-36, once or twice at 38, mpg. That was driving conservatively/regular as well. You won't likely see anything higher than that. The Versa is just too heavy to get anything better.

40 is rare, but can be done... strictly highway, and driving very conservatively....

Sorry, I guess it should be called "non-highway driving." I mostly commute between two fairly small army posts in Germany. On-post has a lot of stop lights and slow speed limits... not really city driving, but definitely not highway driving.

So, 40 mpg seems to be the upper limit? Now I have a goal to shoot for I heard 50 mpg was the upper limit for my Saturn, but I averaged 53.5 mpg for almost all of November.

And about the other things - I've looked at versaspeed and a few other websites. How much difference is there between the 2008 and 2009 models? I see many of the aftermarket products are for the 2006-2008 models. I don't have two vehicles to compare, but I don't see any changes that really stick out between the models. So, would you feel comfortable buying older aftermarket products (such as a mesh grill or angel eyes for example) for a 2009?

Sorry if my questions have been asked before. I've mostly looked at the pictures threads. I promise I'll read more of the other posts.

no difference at all, its all the same, except for the fact that 09 has a few more features in the car, but other than that everything else is the same....

Gasoline - regular unleaded. Saturn 1.9 L SOHC. Right now its not doing as well. This weekend I'm going to clean my EGR valve and play with the ECTS and fuel injectors to see if I can get it back to the level I like it.

Not to knock the Versa but you may wanna look at a few other cars. The Versa is not gonna go that fast or get THAT great of mileage. 50 mpg is insane. A Toyota Yaris has great mileage but it's not a big car and it wouldn't have the power you're looking for. So come to think of it... just go ahead and get the Versa or check out some other cars first. Not much out there that would get great mileage over a Versa though.
