I HAVE A 1990 240SX HB W/ AND RB20DET GOING TO BE PUSHING NEAR 400HP TO THE GROUND.

I HAVE A COUPLE QUESTIONS ON TIRES:1.) BEST TIRES FOR DRY-ROAD HANDLING UNDER $150 A TIRE WITH HIGH SPEED RATING?2.) BEST WET-ROAD TIRES (SAME CRITERIA AS ABOVE)?3.) BEST STREET LEGAL DRAG RADIAL4.) BEST PLACES TO GET THE BEST PRICES ON THESE TIRES.

THE REASON I AM ASKING THIS IS BECAUSE I AM GOING TO BE GETTING 3 SETS OF RIMS: ONE FOR DRY WEATHER, ONE FOR WET WEATHER, AND ONE FOR DRAG NIGHTS. I AM LOOKING FOR A MINIMUM OF 16" TO A MAXIMUM OF 17" RIMS SO RECOMMENDED SIZES ARE GREAT ALSO. THE CAR WILL HAVE A COMPLETE SUSPENSION BUILD-UP INCLUDING POLY BUSHINGS, AGX STRUTS, GROUND CONTROL COILOVERS, ST SWAY BARS, AND SOME STRUT TIE BARS (STILL LOOKING FOR GOOD BRAND). OHH ALSO FOR THE DRAG TIRES I'LL BE SWITCHING TO SOILD MOTOR MOUNTS ON THOSE NIGHTS IF THAT IS ALSO A FACTOR. THANKS FOR ANY RECOMMENDATIONS.

to be honets, you've got some conflicting criterion:"BEST TIRES FOR DRY-ROAD HANDLING UNDER $150 A TIRE WITH HIGH SPEED RATING?"

yet you're planning on running 3 different sets of wheels/tires? I'd think you could afford a more road-worthy tire with that kind of money to throw around.

Its all size dependant too, as far as cost goes, so your personal biases toward a certain look, or style would influence that quite a bit.

To be honest, you're much better of spending, say 50 dollars a tire more, and saving the wheel money to get a good wet and dry max performance tire/wheel combo(IE s-03 or some such tire) and a set of competition wheels/tires.

otherwise, you wont get the best of anything, at least, not under 150 a tire in a 17". Exceptions being special prices on some tires...but you get the idea.

try getting a set of nice 17" wheels, running a 235-40-17 all the way around with a s-03 or other good dry and wet grip tire, and a set of 225-50-16 or 245-45-16 bf goodrich G-force drag radials on your drag wheels.-chet

The tire sizes are going to depend on which wheels you go with as well. I'd probably start looking at wheels first and then we can help you match up the tires based on the wheel width, offset, etc... Sort of a chicken before the egg thing.

I'VE ALREADY FOUND THE WHEELS MY WET/DRY WHEELS ARE EXIS RACE 17" AND MY DRAG WHEELS ARE EXIS RACE 16". I COULD DEAL WITH HAVING A GOOD WET DRY TIRE ON MY CAR BUT I WOULD RATHER HAVE TIRES FOR SEPARATE ELEMENTS. THOSE ARE THE DRAGS I WAS LOOKING AT, FOR DRY I WAS LOOKING AT KUMHO MX, WETS I WAS LOOKING AT THE YOKOHAMA PARADA'S. I AM JUST NOT GOOD WITH SIZES. I WANT THE GRIPPIEST TIRE FOR EACH ELEMENT. IF THAT ALSO HELPS.

WELL I CAN GET 8 WHEELS FOR $800. I WANT TO SPEND ABOUT $2000 TOTAL ON WHEELS AND TIRES WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST FOR THAT AMOUNT OF MONEY? 4 DRAG AND 4 WET/DRY MAX PERF. TIRES. THE RIMS ARE 17" EXIS RACE AND 16" EXIS RACE.

uhm..the parada is not a "wet grip" tire. Like I said, you'd be better off getting a set of bridgestone s-03 pole positions or the like, which has excellent dry grip, and great wet grip also, than try and find two tires for each element, its cheaper and easier that way.

The Bridgestone SO3 Pole Position is going to be much better handling in both dry and wet conditions than the Parada. Even in the dry the SO3 has much more grip and stability.

the parada was made as a "tuner" tire, for plus 2,3, 4 fitments on "sport compacts"....

NOT for wet grip. You can read my review or read tire racks reviews on it and find that out.

get a set of s-03 or pilot sports, etc and a set of drag radials and be happy.-chet

a 215-40-17 will keep your gearing close to stock...

most people prefer a 225- or 235 (45 and 40) tire though, russ runs a 235-40-17 on his 17x7, as does jerome...it bulges a bit much for my liking, but seems fine so far(russ autocrosses a lot..)

the s-03 will be cheaper than the pilot sport.-chet

Hmmm ... why do you want the narrower tires? Yes, the diameter goes down, but the "grippiness" also goes down since you have a smaller contact patch. You would be better off (in reference to grippiness) keeping the higher width and reducing the aspect ratio. In other words, 235/60 has a larger diameter than 235/40 with the same wheel size.

Just to throw another opinion into the mix... if you do for whatever reason decide to go with 3 sets of tires, don't overlook the Azenis for a dry weather tire - I seriously doubt you are going to find a stickier dry tire without going to an R compound, and at $106 each for a 225/45/17 they're pretty easy on the wallet too. One word of warning though, these tires absolutely suck on wet roads! Damp roads aren't bad, but if it's coming down you'll be skating at anything over 55. I guess you have to ask yourself how important it is to go fast in the rain.

...or drive through pudles over 30mph....

I know of R_compounds with better rain traction than the azenis...

anyways, the 215-40-17 in a nice tire should provide decnt grip, and keep the rolling diamtere decently low.-chet
