I've been sorting through all the options for a service manual for the 97 J30 I just purchased. Reading through the previous posts I didn't find much to steer me one way or the other for a J30 so I thought I'd ask what you guys recommend. So far, I'm considering the original manuals on ebay ($50-70). There are CDs on ebay that are $7-10. I also found the deal where you go to the "www.nissan-techinfo.com/infiniti/" website and purchase a 24 hour subscription and download the needed files for $20.

Any recommendations for which is the best way to go or if there are any better options? My preference is to get something that has everything I would need to know about my particular car over something more generic. I have no problem going the computer file / CD options if they have all I need to know.

thanks

becareful of some of the ebay cds.

-one has the title for a specific car, but reading it.. it admits that its a universal guide.

-the one i got was a copy of a cd repair manual.. but didnt work on my computer.

I've never tried the nissa-techinfo.. since it doesnt cover the M30, but honestly, i have a "collecting" habit, so I always try to get everything related to what I want. I can have the chiltons nad haynes and need more.

but i am interested in what other people say about other options.

Not that I see. Try http://phatg20.net/And the eBay discs are fine. I'm not especially impressed with the factory manual, though. Datsun never has done much of a job with their books. Pity Haynes never got a J30 to take apart. Ah, but such is the lofty world of exclusivity.

I donno if you have found it already.

I went through 3 options. 1 got a CD from ebay. Sucks big time. I just got a mitchel guide. Which was really bad and general. 2. I subscribed on 2 sites which had more information but was also far from being detailed. 3. Finally I bought an FSM on ebay for $65 and so far I'm more than happy.

I spoke to a guy at Infiniti dealership in Toronto - the one that driverdriver recommended me and asked him about the electronic form of the FSM. And the guy told me that for those years the manuals were only in hard copies and were not available electronically. This is what he told me. I personally have not tried that nissan site.

Interesting, I wonder which one you got. The one I have, I think it was six bucks, has the FSM, the update, and the owner's manual. However, I still can hardly stomach PDF files, despite using Foxit instead of the hideous Acrobat. It's a nuisance not being able to flip pages back-and-forth, especially when doing electrical. Anyway, this CD's just as good as the factory manual, as it's the same thing. I'm sure it's also the same as what phatG20 has, as well. The Owner's Manual is available on the Infinity site, I think they have the 96 and 97, which is still applicable for the earlier models. An advantage to owning a car that only had "one" version.
