hi guys, my twin turbo keeps destroying vacuum caps in some way another. either it rips the top off, splits completely down the side from top to bottom or blows completely off. its not fun to drive down the road just so i can replace vacuum caps when i get home. :bs: Is their something stronger than these soft rubber vacuum caps i can use? silicone maybe? any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you're splitting them down the side, you're using caps that are too small. If you're blowing them off, they may be the right size, but under high boost you should probably run a spring clamp on all tube caps.

They make upgraded caps, but the hardest part is finding them in small quantities. Most places want to sell you at least 100, but I'm sure if you looked around amazon or google you could find individual caps for sale. The EPDM, vinyl, or silicone caps would be an upgrade over anything you'll find in autozone or pepboys.

How much boost are you running? At 14PSI, I've had no issues, just run of the mill auto store caps. I put almost all of mine on with a small zip tie to make sure it stays in place.

just stock boost. its not so much of them blowing off completely its more of the tops being ripped off. i was trying to find stuff last night when i ran across a thread on an RX-7 forum and they recommended these

i'm not sure how many are included in that price it doesn't specify.

That was my next thought. I'm gonna try these "boost" caps and if they don't work i guess I'll whip up some epoxy.

The boost caps will work, but they will dry rot, crack, and product boost leaks over time.

Yea this is probably true. I guess I'll just seal them off completely to prevent future problems. Thanks Ziggy

Hey guys i ordered some of those boost caps if any one else was interested. I figured it wouldn't hurt to try it before completely sealing the nipples off. They finally came in UPS today and wanted to show the difference.

Top cap is a standard vacuum cap the bottom one is the boost/pressure cap

Left cap is a standard vacuum cap the right one is the boost/pressure cap

As you can tell their is quite a difference in the two but also note that i purchased 3 caps and my total with shipping was $30....so they are a little on the pricey side. I'll put them on tomorrow boost it hard and see how they hold up lol :bigthumb:

I've used the same silicone ones with 8mm spring clamps. Hate to say it, but I bought the cheap eBay brand, 10/$5 IIRC. No issues so far.

Interesting they def look durable judging by the size alone... If you have any problems post up so people know for the future.
