I just bought some 17X7 Chrome Motegi Racing rims for my Q. What's the most thickest tires i can put on them like 245? or 235?

I wanna say 245/45 (Edit:bad recommendation for 7" rim) is the best size. Keep in mind the proper load rating for a Q, IIRC >95.

I think there's an elaborate list in a thread somewhere in Infiniti General, that can be imported into and excel spread sheet.

For more "traffic" you might try posing this question in the Tires/Wheels/Brakes/Suspension fourm.

A 245/45-17 tire may be a tiny bit too wide for a 7" wide wheel. Most of the recommendations for this tire size say the lowest should be 7.5" wide. Grant (on the other forum) says the same for many of the available brands.

Yes, a list for a Q is available in a post of mine - see the second page, about five or six posts down, in:

8" wide wheel would be ideal for the 245/45-17.

look into less popular sizes, like 225/55-17 95V. This comes on the '02 Q45 standard, so the book says. The '02 Q45 standard wheel is 17x7.5"

The '99-01 Q45t apparently has 225/50-17, on a 17x7.5" wheel.

Those may be some options to look at.

The 7" rim will NOT take a 245 tire. Trust me. There is a problem with the bead angle, on a 245, and a 235 has much too small of tire diameter

I have been looking for one, for my 2000 I30t.

I have determined Infiniti is in cahoots with high priced tires. :(

The only tire that will really work, is the stock size, a 225/50/17.

I am looking hard at the Falken 512's, but have not made the final decision. Everything else, is about $50 a tire more, and some of the extreme unidirectional tires are noisy.

I had some NITTO NT455,'s and like the ride, and were great in the water, but the Q feathered the inside edge (could have been the 150,000 miles I had on the struts), and they sang like a children's choir.

I think the FWD I30t would be much easier on the directional treads, but I don't want to take a chance with the wife's car.

This is what I like about the Infiniti brand. They've got this luxury-performance bent, that makes the cars a bit edgy and sporty.

But, those traits come at a cost of high tire prices, because the performance return is (in my opinion) greater than the dollar cost of replacement rubber.

I bought 8" rims for my Q, because there are literally 100's of tires that fit a 17" x 8" rim.

There are only a hand full of tires that fit a 17" x 7" rim. And they are all OEM replacement tires. Not much variety, or competition in that size market.

If I were looking for replacement wheels (and I usually am), of any of my Infiniti's, I would make a 7.5" rim width, a minimum.

If you decide to buy OEM wheels, off of eBay, or other places, make sure they were from Q's or 300's, so you will get the wider rim width.

In fact, I am considering 18" x 8" on the front, and 18" x 9" on the rear, for my 1994 Q, if I get a second Q, to drive daily.

Hi, Jeff.

Definitely agree with your points. Check out my list too that covers the availability issue for various wheel widths.

Two basic problems (one is serious):

1. The tire diameter for 225/45-17 is about 25". This is lower than stock by about 1". So you would have some speedo error, although you could choose to live with this.

2. I looked at the 89 tires of this size at Tire Rack. The 18 or 19 (or so) I checked out were all way too low a load index rating - they ranged from a low of 84 to a high of 94. Most were 90 to 93 typically. Even the strongest tires I saw (XL version of the Goodyear Eagle D1-S3 and Reinforced Ecsta KU19) were only 94. These low load indexes are dangerous on a heavy car like the Q - you must get 95 or higher (preferred).

In a different size, the Michelin Pilot Sport AS has some tire sizes that will work for a 7" rim. Check out the 235/50-17 (slight speedo error, 96W load rated) and the 245/50-17 (slightly more speedo error, 99W rated). Expensive tires, though!

BTW, I hope your wheel offset is correct for the Q - particularly with the 245/50-17!

I think that will work with the 17x7 wheels - even with 235/50-17 or 245/50-17 tires. Do not add any lowering springs though! :)
