I have a 1995 Nissan 240 SX SE and am about to get my fuel system cleaned out by a local Nissan dealership. My gas mileage has been going down and thought it was about time for a tune up. I have heard good things about getting the fuel system cleaned from this forum. So I figured, since I'm going that far, I might as well change out the plugs and wires and stuff.

The last time I changed the plugs and wires was about 2 years ago. I got those 4 way platinum things. And the last time I changed the distributor and rotor was about 6-7 months ago. And those were just the store brand or whatever they had.

I was just wondering if there are any particular parts that I should get the would maximize my performance and that would last for at least another couple years?

Change your air filter too.

Already did that a couple months ago. Got that K&N filter. But, yeah, I will clean it. Thanks for the reminder!

Get a new fuel filter, many of us on here use the last years of 300sx's fuel filter, no gain in performance unless you've got upgraded fuel system components, but if you do, you'll be able to use the higher flow rate of the 300's filter. You didn't say if you are going to do the cap and rotor again too, I would do that. May want to think about transmission fluid change, rear diff. oil change, coolant change, and even a new PCV valve depening on when they were last done.

BTW, if you go for the 300zx fuel filter, you'll see that it's much wider, but if you just push firm, it will go into the fuel filter retainer bracket and stay there just fine.

With all these parts/ fluids I'd recommend using the better quality/ brands as long as you have the budget for them.

What year 300zx filter would I get? I don't know when the last year was. If there is no gain in performance then why do it though? Wouldn't it just use more gas for no gain?

I did have the transmission fluid changed about a year or so ago, haven't really thought about the rear diff., as well as a coolant change.

I did buy a PCV valve not too long ago, but that was before I realized what would be involved in changing it. So, I haven't done that yet and probably won't. I'm brave, but not that brave.

What brands would you reccomend? And like the spark plugs, does the 4 or 2 prong make a difference?

I'm not sure how much I want to spend. I know that the fuel system cleaning is going to run about $125 +tax, and I'm moving at the end of the month. So I don't want to spend too much. Some things may have to wait.

Sorry about all the questions and any input is appreciated!

My understanding is that any year 300zx (90-96, I believe) will work. I've been told that the N/A and turbo cars used the same filter. Bottom line is that it flows better than the 240SX filter AND somehow it's cheaper.

I'm planning on changing mine when I do plugs, wires, etc. I took the easy way out and had a mechanic change my PCV valve. :)

about the plug what i have heard is that the more prongs does not mean much unless u are running a forced indution.

I told the parts guy to get a 95 300zx turbo fuel filter and got what I needed. Like I said, no gain unless you've got upgraded fuel systems parts like high pressure/ volume pump and the like, otherwise there's no need for it. Just your choice.

I use the standard NGK V-powers with my NOS, intake, exhaust, Nismo cam, etc with out suffering any ill effects. Those extra prongs are really just a gimmic if your car is not hard tuned with some form of forced induction and the like. Think about it, electricity takes the shortest path. It will only shoot across to the ground electrode that has the shortest gap, even if the differences between the ground electrodes are millionths of an inch. Those extra prongs up the reliabilty of the plug sparking at all under super high RPMs and super fast intake/ exhaust flow, since fast flow can actually blow out the spark. No need to worry unless your car is seriously modified. Besting thing is, only about a buck fifty for NGK V-powers.

The dealer's fuel injection services are really expensive. If you are needing it, you should try the old Seafoam first and see if you can save a lot of money first. It's only $6. 1/3 in the intake, and the other 2/3 in the tank and then fill it up. There's plenty of stuff on that in this forum.
