Recirculate without AC on

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hi,
Is there way to switch to recirculate without the AC turning on? This is very irritating. I read the manual, but it doesn't seem to indicate that this is possible.
Thanks,
Jon

I don't think so. It is the first car that I have had that does this. You get used to it. :)

I have that Carista bluetooth OBD2 thingy and it does allow me to make some custom changes to my wife's CT200h, but nothing available to customize on my EX. :(

What's the purpose of recirculating air in the car without AC on anyways?

Because we might want to cut off the outside air without having cold air blasted on us or running the compressor. Why does Infiniti assume we want cold air blasted on us when we need to shut off outside air? That sounds like a nightmare in winter. I often recirculate air when I get behind polluting cars/trucks, but rarely do I want the a/c running at that time. Likewise, if I'm accelerating and I want to recirculate air, but don't want to lose power, then I don't want the compressor to run becuase it sucks power. There should be no connection between a/c and recirculate. They are two separate systems.

I'm not sure why Infiniti restricted the ability to turn off the A/C when switching to recirculated air. Maybe they felt that the cabins collected moisture too quickly without it. Like in the other cars I've had, I would have preferred that Infiniti had given us the option to turn the A/C off in that mode. Choices man, it's all about having choices :) .

In the wintertime, it's actually not that bad. I do feel a slight dip in the temperature, but it's not that drastic. But when it comes to defrosting the windshield first thing in the morning, ideally I would want to run it in recirculate mode with the A/C off. I still don't see it as a huge issue, as the EX warms up more quickly than our other vehicle.

Every car I've had in the last few years has forced AC. My S2000 and old Subaru both forced AC when the windshield vent is chosen as well.

I actually don't think I've ever turned the AC off in the 5 years that I've owned the EX35.

I just checked and my 2016 Chevy Spark EV climate control and it does allow you to turn off AC when you recirculate.

Of course it's not a deal breaker. There are so many more things to like about these cars than anything in their class. It's really about the only thing that I don't like, or that can't be remedied.
