Recirculate button on climate control

I've read the FAQ about the A/C light coming on after moving the airflow from the defrost position, But can anyone explain why when the airflow is at the footwell position, and you push the recirculate button, the recirculate light remains off and the A/C light comes on? Thanks in advance.
