a 1992 M30 convertible, it has 103,000 miles on it, I paid $500 for it and IMO way below what the seller couldve gotten had henot been desperate. It was sold brand new in nearby Alexandria, VA. the engine runs fine (3.oL), the transmission shifts good and no burnt fluid, the car is currently pouring coolant when the engine warms up enough for the thermostat to open, it continues this until all the coolant is out of the system, whether running or not, only way it would stop is if thermostat closed but it leaks so fast that wont happen. from what i could see water/coolant was leaking all over the bottom engine cover plastic thing, it wasn't just coming from one spot, I was curious if anyone knows if a water pump would leak at this rate? or perhaps its a heater hose? or a thermostat elbow connector? the only other problem is the left side windows won't go down, I can hear the motors humming, but the windows won't budge. would this just be a motor replacement? also there is no stereo in the car, speakers appear to be there, it looks like its a double din from the factory, so i guess just get the install kit and go with it? Thanks in advance for any help.

hello and welcome!
please allow me to address your isussue(s) with coolant leak.

-it could be your bypass hose(s) (2 short 3" hose)
-it could be blown t-stat housing (it uses gasket in your case cause its a 92 model
-yes, it could also be your water pump (weep hole or again with the blown gasket).

in any rate, all these issue may potentially lead to fast draining leaks.
If you're mechanically motivated you may be able do all those problems mentioned above on your own and save some labor cost.
GL.
and a very nice pick up.
I'm almost jealous.
wait, let us see some pics.
it might be ugly.

on my J one of the bypass hoses chicken mentioned had a long slit on it, and it would drain the coolant out as fast as you poured it in,

Thanks for your help/advise yoda and thanks to chicken also, I tried for 45 minutes to post a pic of the cr on here and it aint happening. I dont think the water pump could ever leak as fast as what you described, and thats what this is doing, i''m about to put her up on stands and crawl uderneath and will her up with water, and see what i find, the thermostat housing doesnt have any crack, but as you say yoda, it frekkin pours out once the tstate opens up, again many thanks, i'm sure i will be spending some time on here, my intent is to turn this car into my daily driver, with 103,000 miles on it, he!! its barel;y broken in

thanks voda, itl ooks like chicken was correct when he advised to look for a failed water pump gasket, theres no sway the amount of water leaking could be coming from any weep holes.its leaking out very very very quick. the car came with the factory repair manual, which does'nt mention very much at all about the water pump and its removal?installation, is this going to require the timing belt and tensioners be replaced? I know thats the case on my Honda Accord. but this baby looks more like an american made car, even th water pump looks old school.the infinity manual just says to take the belts off, looks to me like the radiator needs to be removed, the fan and clutch must be removed, if the water pump iis still good, should I reuse it?and what to use for gasket? blue sealer stuff? (I used that on my dodge ram), to my way of thinking, someone screwed up the last water pump install bigtime. a couple of questions, after the belts are off, and fan removed, can the water pump be removed next? 4 bolts? I dont see much use in buying another pump, the one thats on there is probably straight from the factory, if this was just lousy mechanicin, in order for the water to be leaking around the pump at the rate it is, makes me wonder if the gasket was left comp[letely off, Thanks again for any and all pointers/short cuts, i sure wanna get her rollin...

yeah, im used to honda b-series and our engines(vgs) are bit easier to repair imo.

order of removal:

-fan/clutch: 4 10mm
-driving belts: 12mm 14mm to loosen/tighten tensioners.
-crank pulley: 27mm
-timing covers L/R (plastic): 8-10 hexs (size:?)
-crank pulley cover (aluminum):6 10mm/hexs
-6 12mm pump bolts waitin on ya.
-little smack with a rubber mallet.

to replace:

fel-pro gasket $2(blue); RTV gasket maker is optional imo.
if additional,...um...i would say $40 can be spared, replace thermostat w/OE gates w/fel pro gasket and those bypass hose we've mentioned earlier.
also, another $70 is in order for a brand new Aisin water pump.

would you believe an average shop would charge like $500 in labor for this!
ironically, which is the same amount paid for the car.

once again, gl sir.

many thanks chicken, so much for a damned factory manual LOL, i just have a couple more questions, and whenever the damned deep freeze ends here i will be all over this, should I replace the timing belt? you said crank pully removaed, this is something I have never done, will i need to buy a wheel puller? lastly where would one go to buy the brand pump you mentioned, i usually use advance auto parts (gotta love free shipping) occsionally i use NAPA when i need the parts that day, I have also used rockauto.com with some success, i just bought a brand new headlight for my honda from advance , again free shiiping, it came with both bulbs, as well as a brand new turn signal complete with bulbs, so if your headlights eventually get hazed as most all of them seem to do, $200 for two brand new lights is not a bad deal if you think about it, i'm gonna order two new ones for my 99 ram next, they are like $70 apiece, and it needs lights in reallll bad way , again thanks for your help, it has been awesome!!

good find with the lights.
im a bargin lover as well.
you could be super lucky because the prior owner or whom ever may have change the timming belt like around 65K-90K.
There is an aluminum sticker size of a credit card containing the date and milage info somwhere on the bay if it has been done.
if not, you know what to do.
which leads me to my favorite store.
pick your poison.

oh also, you can rent a crank pulley (2-3 tons) three prong puller at any autostore for free.

The water pump is plenty capable of leaking out as much water as you put into it in a few seconds.
