Alright, the title says it all in a nut shell. Basically, we bought a new 240sx, took the engine and swapped it to my wife's 93 (better body). The engine started up after some troubleshooting but earlier last week, the things was spewing oil. I looked and thought it might be the rear main seal (it was questionable during the head gasket swap). We went and did a clutch replacement and installed a new rear main today. Now its still leaking and my friend and I found that its leaking through the 4th cylinder head.

When we did the work on the motor, everything was double checked and triple checked. I did a search and found that the KA24DE DOES NOT use torque to yeild bolts (stretch bolts). So I'm wondering if I should just retorque the head bolts and see if that fixes the problem or if I've got bigger things to look out for. BTW, the head bolts torque specs I've pulled from ALLDATA says that 60ft/lbs is the spec. Is that correct?

You mean it's leaking from the headgasket, I assume? Can you be sure it's not leaking down from the rear of the valve cover?

I don't have a kade fsm, so I can't verify the torque specs. It's not quite that simple, though. Nissan specifies a slightly complex method of torquing down the head bolts. Please get a copy of an FSM and look there for the proper procedure and specs. You can buy a hardcopy, or if you search the forums you can find a place to download it in pdf format.

(FSM = Field Service Manual)

I have the FSM and no, its not the valvecover, its the head. I torqued them down in order, even loosening the bolts up and retorquing them as proceedure specified....

The only thing I can think of is the head gasket not being broken in properly (if that's possible). I've never really heard of a head gasket that needs a specific break in proceedure......

Oh ok. It sounded like you had just torqued them all down, perhaps even out of order. Forgive me if I've insulted you.

Did you check the block and head for warpage while the head was off?

Yeah, just came back from school and the instructors said that it might just need to be retorqued. I'll see what happens....
