Recall notice arrived today. No parts available yet, so passenger airbag can't be replaced immediately. I am instructed not to let anyone ride in the front passenger seat until fixed.

I wonder if this means they'll replace the cracking dashboard along with it? That would be awesome.

My Infiniti rep told me at my oil / filter change back in June that my VIN was on a 'possible' defect list for the passenger airbag. He told me then that Infiniti determined my car was built during the dates in question and at the factory in question, but two different manufacturers were supplying the airbag assemblies and only one of those manufacturers were suspect in this recall. He told me Infiniti would look closer at the build specs and part numbers and I would receive a letter in the mail if my car actually DID need the repair. I got my letter yesterday - same as you lot. It indicated no parts available at this time - wait until I receive another letter telling me to make an appointment for the repair.

BUT ......The scary part is that I ASSumed the airbag is only at risk of inflating with no notice, slapping my passenger about the face (which is bad enough) BUT the letter says: Continued exposure to areas with high levels of Humidity may cause the front passenger bag inflator housing to rupture and deploy abnormally, resulting in metal fragments striking the occupants causing injury or DEATH.. South Florida (gulp) is exactly such an area. I imagine the likelihood of such an event is along the lines of a lightning strike or a lotto winner, but I still buy a power ball ticket each week for Fetuccini and myself so I am taking this very seriously.
Fetuccini, not so much ...
We went to the market today to stock up the fridge / freezer for weekend guests and before I could suggest sitting in the back, she went straight for the rear seat, played with the curtains, the recliner and the other controls back there and now has begun using my accent to call me "James" and say things like "Please do find a space in the car park that is closest to the door, won't you?".

Anyone having trouble getting loaners...just make sure you tell them that should anything happen, you will be coming for them and Infiniti USA via lawsuit. Get it in writing that they take responsibility for any damages/health bills in case of an accident. My guess is the general manager of that location might play ball once you ask for that.

It's in their best interest.

I wouldn't touch my car with an issue like this. I'd drop it off and tell the dealer (especially if I'm under warranty) to fork over a loaner PRONTO.

I dont think they would replace the dash. is the airbag part of the dash?

It's not part of the dash but it comes through it.

According to my dealer, they go in through the glove box and up under the dash. The dash is not removed and it will not be replaced for this recall.

The odd thing is I got a recall letter like 6 - 8 months ago. I then got another letter a week later saying that the first letter was a mistake. Flash forward. My CarFax app sends me an alert that there is a an open recall for the passenger airbag. This was like 3 weeks ago. While at the dealer for another matter, I bring up the recall notice but the dealer can't find it. Later that day I get a call that they found the notice about the airbag. It was stated that the parts are still being manufactured, and they should have sufficient quantities by September. 3 days ago, I just got my official "real" notice from Infiniti that there was a recall and to await the second notice to schedule an appointment. Needless to say it has been as humid as a swamp here the last few weeks.

mine says they do not have the parts yet, but they are coming in September. I just do not like my local dealership at all!

I posted a thread titled: Takata airbag recall. It has the latest info and some rather crazy updates. I was shocked at what I found.

I had mine done quite a while back and it took a lot of zip out of the car. My M used to launch itself with the slightest pressure on the pedal--I got used to driving like there was an egg under my foot, in slow traffic. After the sender (or whatever) was replaced, it seems to have a fair amount of hesitation. A very different feel, in my opinion.

Can anyone else describe their differences after the accelerator recall repair?

Maybe I won't have the pedal done.

The dealer claimed that the replacement was due to a few folks experiencing "runaway" acceleration. It is likely that, even if this was just blaming the car for your own carelessness, Infinity may have decided to tone down the accelerator response to limit future liability. Just my .02 but I'd undo the recall repair, if I could.

I had mine done a while back (throttle pedal) and throttle response was in par with how it performed before the replacement.
