i was on another forum after i recieved a phonecall from the dealership saying that my car just received 2 recalls. i forgot which, but one had to do with the ecu. a member of the other forum said that when they got their car back, it lost the power it once had. anyone know anything about this?

I got the recall notice, its for cars that need to meet CA emission standards I believe. And yes, I think its going to end up costing us some power, which sucks, someone else mentioned it on the other forum, but I don't know if it'll be noticeable.

check this out just found it

Description: 2007-2008 NISSAN ALTIMA SEDAN, 2008 ALTIMA COUPE; VOLUNTARY EMISSIONS RECALL CAMPAIGN OBD DIAGNOSTIC REPROGRAMNissan has determined that some 2007 and 2008 model Altima vehicles are equipped with an improperly functioning on-board emission-related diagnostic system that violates California standards and regulations. This condition may result in failure of the on-board diagnostic system to warn a driver that the catalytic converter is malfunctioning. To correctthis condition, Nissan is conducting a Voluntary Emissions Recall Campaign to reprogram the Engine Control Module (engine computer). If this repair is not completed, affected vehicles may fail an emission inspection or I/M smog check test.

so than its not a necessary fix, unless you have to get emissions done?

Yeah, my notice said that you will receive a certificate which might need to be sent to the DMV in order to register the car next year. I don't know if that is a bluff or not, but I would get it done if you are in California. Sorry about mentioning "the other forum" in my previous post, haha.

hmm why can't Nissan get the 2.5S right, but than again didn't they do this to the 2.5 before in 2004? When they added something that robbed 10hp for 2.5 owners in low emission states?

It would be interesting to a dyno test before and after this service was performed.

Any 6 speed guys out there get this notice?

Alot of times people think their car "feels" slower when in reality it's exactly the same, they've just gotten used to that power level.

I installed a K&N drop-in with the reflash and my MPG has gone up consistently for the past four tanks. I'd say about a 1.5 mpg/tank improvement. Hit 33.2 mpg on this last tank. (computer said 35.7 mpg)

Maybe it's just the filter, but a reflash for emissions would probably make the fuel mix leaner, that has to help the mpg.

The emissions problem that has happened for people is because in California it wasnt meeting the standards and now in California they slightly de-tune the car down 5 horsepower and 5 lb-ft of torque

The CA version of the 2.5L is already rated at 170 HP vs. 175 HP for those outside of CA. Are you telling me they are going to reduce it an additional 5 HP to 165??!!! Yikes!

I'm hearing conflicting reports of "It feels like it has more power" and the response is that they lean it out (which would generate more power) to "It feels sluggish now" and the response is they de-tune another 5 HP. <sigh> Maybe I can ask them to do the 2* advance when they do mine, however I already re-registered for the year and got my tags and there was no requirement to send in a certificate.

I didn't know there was a reflash for the 2.5 ECU. What does it do and how much did it cost you? Or did you get it done at the dealership as part of the recall (i.e not a performance upgrade)?
