There was a recall for 1998 r50's concerning the fuel pipe coating, i dont think i ever took it to get fixed, but its only for registered owners in certain snowy states (the road salt corrodes the fuel tank pipe) , i live in CA, but i go to tahoe alot plus the risk is for all owners, there shouldnt be "we only help those who have a slighty higher chance of having their fuel tanks catch on fire". Anyone take theirs in for a fix?

Yeah I took mine in about 6 months ago. I decided to leave the car there so they gave me an Infinity EX35 as a courtesy car for a day. Didn't want to take it back!

You just gotta take it up there with less then 1/4 tank.

I just called up to my Infiniti dealership and dropped my car off the same week. When I called they already knew what I was talking about.

I think I recall them saying the repair takes a couple hours or something.

I live in Florida but might have this done anyway. It's free, why not?

i know, thats why i really would like to get it done but its only availiable in snowy states i think

Description - ON CERTAIN VEHICLES ORIGINALLY SOLD IN OR CURRENTLY REGISTERED IN THE STATES OF CONNECTICUT, DELAWARE, IOWA, ILLINOIS, INDIANA, KENTUCKY, MASSACHUSETTS, MAINE, MARYLAND, MICHIGAN, MINNESOTA, NEW HAMPSHIRE, NEW JERSEY, NEW YORK, OHIO, PENNSYLVANIA, RHODE ISLAND, TENNESSEE, VERMONT, VIRGINIA, WEST VIRGINIA , WISCONSIN AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, DURING THE COATING PROCESS OF THE FUEL FILLER TUBE ASSEMBLY, AN INSUFFICIENT AMOUNT OF COATING MAY HAVE BEEN APPLIED AT THE LOWER MOUNTING BRACKET. THIS COULD RESULT IN AN OPENING IN THE COATING WHICH CAN ALLOW WATER TO ENTER AND MAKE CONTACT WITH THE BARE METAL OF THE TUBE.

Consequences - THIS MAY RESULT IN SURFACE RUST BUT NOT PERFORATION OF THE TUBE. HOWEVER, IN THOSE AREAS OF THE COUNTRY WHICH USE HEAVY CONCENTRATIONS OF ROAD SALT IN THE WINTER, IF A MIXTURE OF SNOW/WATER AND SALT MAKES CONTACT WITH THE BARE METAL, CORROSION MAY OCCUR TO A DEGREE WHICH RESULTS IN PERFORATION OF THE TUBE. IN THIS CASE FUEL LEAKAGE MAY OCCUR WHEN FILLING THE TANK. FUEL LEAKAGE, IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.

i live in CA so i dunno, worth a try though, ill start calling nissan/infiniti dealers tommorow

Just call nissan usa. Give them the VIN, they will see if it has been done and then tell you what shop to take it to. It doesn't matter if your the original owner. They don't want anything to happen regardless

Went by Nissan yesterday and they ran my VIN and said the recall didn't show, so that meant that it was either performed already or not affected in the first place. Works for me, I guess.

Ah, just found the maintenance record tonight. Nissan replaced my fuel filler tube around 101k miles even though I'm in Florida which is said to be unaffected by the recall. Nice of them.
